Mud Lake State Wildlife Area
Saw a report of a rare tropical bird hanging out in Wisconsin, so I decided to look up the place where it's been recorded. Alrighty then, guess I will not be going to Wisconsin.

I love this shot of Waukegan piping plover Dandelion. This was shot around sunrise on one of the bad air quality days from the wildfire smoke. The diffused early morning sunlight shining through the smoke cast this ethereal red glow over the beach. #birds #wildife #nature #photography #pipingplover
Piping plovers do this seemingly cute head tilt sometimes, but itās actually an important defensive behavior. When they detect a predator flying above, they tilt their heads to get a better look at the sky to assess the threat. Benny here is getting a better look at a bigger bird flying overhead.
