Sorry, let me clarify. It seems that it is not related to the organizers. One of them hid it and that one person knows where it is. But I get the impression that it is not like Fenn's in that it was somewhere personal, so digging into that person's life won't necessarily result in a clue.
I noticed that the organizers had a disclaimer saying that the location has nothing to do with them, so they maybe tried to learn from Fenn's mistakes, but also, who reads the disclaimers?
I don't qualify to play, but I love puzzles like this, so I have already looked into this for curiosity's sake. That said, I still think the actuality of this is a terrible idea. Based on Fenn's treasure hunt, people will destroy nature, risk their lives, lose their savings, all for a chance.

Yes. When you browse books, don't put them back on the shelf, put them on the carts we leave in the stacks for reshelving. We keep stats on what people are browsing. It tells us what people are interested in. Helps funding case too. Also, it prevents you from accidentally misshelving the book.

No problem! With a name like destroying angel it probably goes without saying, but if it is amanita variety, then it is 100% a do not eat mushroom. But they are fun to photograph!
Hard to identify when it is this young and without seeing the gills/underside, where it is growing etc... But it looks very much like an amanita type mushroom and I would compare it to Amanita virosa, Amanita bisporigera, or Amanita ocreata (all called destroying angel).
