Italy without immigration will shrink to 28,000,000 by end of the century, we wouldn’t be a viable country (we have currently 65 million people).

In all this madness ID cards are a good idea. The rest of Europe has ID cards, in a country where now it is compulsory to prove your identity to vote, not having a universal ID card is a sure way of making voting harder for some groups of people.

Why is UK Labour announcing our updated relationship with the European Union With Michael Gove who is now Editor of the Spectator, who famously said we could have a green Brexit if we chose to leave the EU - which of course we haven't?

This is classic Labour imposter syndrome. They believe the country is fundamentally and unalterably right wing.

The thing is, it's not just the nationalist right that they are scared of: it's a terror of challenging huge amounts of the Tory settlement of the previous 14 years (taxes on income can never go up, pensioners must be privileged over workers/families, media must always platform the right)

Nailed on head. Blair was a great communicator,he could sell you the story &yes he got so much stick for it; but if this Gov could sell their story and what they are doing it wouldn’t feel like they are constantly on the defensive against the RW press and Farage. This is not in Starmer’s skill set.

Everything Farage and RefUK plan rests on them dragging us out of the ECHR. That's why we have to start defending and informing about it NOW. People need to be afraid of leaving it. They need to know the move will threaten their OWN right to ... 🔥 A fair trial 🔥 Fair laws 🔥 Protection from execution

A day of shame for the UK. A political party proposes mass deportations and the response from other political parties is not to condemn this as going further than even Mosley or the National Front.

Politically insane Morally bankrupt Labour risks delivering the UK to fascism because it is too scared to call it out. Pathetic and repugnant.

They have always thought that the UK just because they are “British” can’t possibly be fascist. Yes they can, there is no vaccine against it.

Thanks Stephen. I am unsure why people looking at the actions of the present American Government would assume that such a thing cannot happen here. A peculiar British exceptionalism.

The big question for me is whether the British public really have the stomach for the kind of brutality the Reform approach implies. This is rounding up thousands of people onto the back of trucks and dumping them into a tent city in the Midlands. We haven't done this since WW2. /fin

You can't assume that the current pace of capacity building remains constant if you are willing to disregard existing procedures in pursuit of your goal, as we saw during the pandemic. The Government can move at speed if it chooses. /2

While I certainly agree with Sunder that this will not be easy, I am forced to point out that in withdrawing from all relevant international agreements alongside some kind of emergency declaration Reform would be able to set up 'Nightingale' style concentration camps to house asylum seekers. /1

In before 'it's crap because they agree with it' - frankly even if you agreed with every dot and comma of the big picture stuff, you should have enough about you to attack your opponent's plan to give billions of pounds to the Taliban.

Even just the chaos would make all of us a lot poorer, some people won’t be able to pay their bills/rent/mortgage/ end up homeless. Then there is the instability w the economy and investment that means job losses. People are being too naive to hv forgotten Liz Truss already!!!

Stupid, selfish people. It starts w our own family,we keep quiet to keep peace when we shld be calling every bad behaviour/habit out. From paying/getting paid in cash(I hv 2 cousins who have a business & happen to pay nxt to zero taxes but have a boat🤷‍♀️) because they are “furbi”. It then snowballs.
