Everyone is rushing to defend Graham Linehan as some martyr to free speech but don't actually state what he tweeted. He explicitly called for people to violently assault trans women in the bathroom. In another instance, he cyberstalked a trans minor. He's legitimately a danger to trans people.

Alt text: A screenshot of a tweet from Graham Linehan (@Glinner) posted on April 20, 2025. The tweet reads: “If a trans-identified male is in a female-only space, he is committing a violent, abusive act. Make a scene, call the cops and if all else fails, punch him in the balls.” The tweet shows engagement counts: 629 comments, 71K retweets, 20K likes, and 534 bookmarks. (Note: The content contains transphobic and violent language.) The tweet, posted October 22, 2024 at 12:57 PM, reads: “We believe … is studying computer science somewhere in London. If you know … and want to help to stop … harassing people, please get in touch.” The attached image is obscured by a large pink rectangle. The tweet shows 20.7K views. The tweet, posted October 22, 2024 at 12:53 PM, reads: “More … footage from the weekend.” It includes a video thumbnail partly obscured by a large red rectangle. The video length is 3:20, with 171.9K views.

BBC guy: "How rare to see someone thinking on TV",playing to OU audience ofc but still true. MB makes some of the best BBC output ☹️

Wild case of ChatGPT almost killing a guy by telling him to substitute sodium bromine for table salt (sodium chloride) #medsky www.acpjournals.org/doi/10.7326/...

With improvement, he was able to report that he had recently noticed new-onset facial acne and cherry angiomas, fatigue, insomnia, subtle ataxia, and polydipsia, further suggesting bromism. He also shared that, after reading about the negative effects that sodium chloride, or table salt, has on one's health, he was surprised that he could only find literature related to reducing sodium from one's diet. Inspired by his history of studying nutrition in college, he decided to conduct a personal experiment to eliminate chloride from his diet. For 3 months, he had replaced sodium chloride with sodium bromide obtained from the internet after consultation with ChatGPT, in which he had read that chloride can be swapped with bromide, though likely for other purposes, such as cleaning. Gradually, over the course of a 3-week admission, his chloride and anion gap normalized and psychotic symptoms improved. He was tapered off risperidone before discharge and remained stable off medication at a check-in 2 weeks after discharge. His bromide level ultimately was 1700 mg/L (21 mmol/L; reference range, 0.9 to 7.3 mg/L).

I was explaining to my Ukrainian colleague the phrase ‘There’s no such thing as a free lunch’. She told me the equivalent in Ukrainian is ‘The only free cheese is in the mousetrap’ - which is so much better

When I visit colleagues in Annecy or Strasbourg, I'm struck by how often people just blithely commute across the borders every day. I can't speak for all the policy complexities behind the scenes, but from a citizen's perspective, Schengen, and the Four Freedoms, are genuinely the work of genius.

Whether there are or are not opt outs if the UK sought to rejoin the EU is a secondary issue - if the UK's pro-EU folk don't make a broad pro-EU case about why the UK doesn't need opt outs then the question is never going to arise in reality.

oh this is interesting. i pretty firmly believe, just as a matter of observation and experience, that complaints about affirmative action are a psychological salve for people who aren’t confident of their ability to succeed

It's also one of those modern day myths, a bit like US gun laws or mediaeval chivalry; invented or embellished by a later generation for anachronistic reasons. The British currency is younger than me. The name might have history but the currency is a child of the 1970s.

Unpopular opinion (but it shouldn’t be): we in the UK have a weird fetishisation of £ sterling. I can’t speak for the subtleties of economics, but as a random traveller life would be SO much easier if the UK adopted the €. From a user perspective it’s the work of genius, as are the Four Freedoms

The Cass Review has not been peer-reviewed. But it has now been critiqued in depth and from every angle and fully discredited as pseudoscience by ELEVEN peer-reviewed publications. So when the government uses the Cass Review to justify any policies it is not “following the science”.

Karin Smyth Minister of State (Department of Health and Social Care) The Government is continuing its work with the National Health Service to reform gender services, to ensure young people receive timely, holistic care and support, while reviewing the use of cross-sex hormones in line with recommendation eight of the Cass Review. The Cass Review said that NHS England should review its policy on cross-sex hormones. The review noted that the option to provide cross-sex hormones is available for patients aged 16 years old and over, but that

What do you think is more likely, that Musk’s Nazi robot has made new discoveries in materials science or that Musk can’t tell when he’s being told scientific-sounding gibberish?

Elon Musk: That was how I felt when asking Grok 4 questions about materials science that are not in any books or on the Internet Tim Sweeney: Grok 4 feels like Artificial General Intelligence to me. It is clearly not just constructing statistically likely connections, but is drawing fairly deep insights on problems it hasn't seen before, in ways I haven't seen elsewhere. Here's an example: grok.com/share/bG...
