My former self, who worked as a housecleaner while she put herself through college, would be proud (and very relieved) to know that I eventually went on to write about it in TIME magazine.

Should add that in my last conversation with that grandma almost 15 years ago, she told me that I should learn to keep my mouth shut. Happy to say I never did.

So my husband and I separated for five months or so and got back together recently and as horrible as it was to feel like we should get divorced, it's great now because we've had time apart to really appreciate each other but mostly because my farts are funny again.
There's this thing going around where he calls teachers ugly, complains about sporks, and says peanuts are getting a bad rap because they're "a beautiful nut" and I still can't tell if it's real or not.
I feel for my kids, I really do, but you just can't complain about having to walk home from the bus stop in the snow to a person who grew up in Alaska.
It says a lot that my show of choice to mentally and emotionally recover from the news cycle is the first two seasons of Grey's Anatomy.
