People are melting down at a Tribune article about CHSD 230 considering adding Arabic to its language learning electives. I wasted time in the comments, which I normally avoid doing since it's useless and awful, but it led to possibly the funniest thing anybody's ever said to me about France.

🚨NEW: Declarations filed in the lawsuit against the rushed attempt to deport 600 Guatemalan children reveals the chaotic way the Trump admin carried out the operation. Children were taken out of bed after midnight to be rushed onto planes. One girl "was so scared she vomited."

7. At all of the shelters visited in the middle of the night, ProBAR staff witnessed children who had been pulled out of their beds. They were confused and scared. At Hands of Healing Los Fresnos, one young girl was extremely distraught, crying and repeatedly saying that she could not go back to Guatemala. At New Hope McAllen, one young girl was so scared that she vomited and asked to speak with a clinician. At Urban Strategies Alamo, one young teenager was scared that he might end up murdered like one of his family members. At Compass Connection in Harlingen, an attorney was able to meet with only one child. None of these children’s parents in their home country had requested their return. ProBAR’s client and named Plaintiff ARMD was at Compass Connection, but he was transported to a plane without notifying me as his attorney of record.

Look at this response from Polanski to Sophie Ridge's attempted gotcha on flags To *finally* have a mainstream political voice standing up for racialised & minoritised communities being intimidated by the violent fash on our streets It's really not that hard, is it?

Sophy Ridge @SophyRidgeSky My conversation with new Green Leader Zack Polanski about the St George's Cross: Zack Polanski: What does it mean to me? Wel, I think it depends on the context. So during an England football game, 1'Il paint my face in a Saint George's Cross quite happily. At another time though, where we don't nave a football tournament, I think it's quite imported from America this idea that we wave flags outside our house. If people want to do that then think that's up to them. But I think at times of heightened tensions, I would say patriotism is actually about loving your neighbour, whether they're from this country or not. Patriotism is about building cohesive communities. I'm really proud today to be an elected Jewish leader of the Green Party. My deputy leader is a Muslim man. I think that's patriotism. When we recognize that antisemitism and Islamophobia are two sides of the same coin, and actually communities are so much better when we're more creative and work together in solidarity. SR: It's interesting to listen tO what you're saying there -s so do you think that flying a St George's Cross outside your house at a time, as you put it, of heightened tension could be intimidating for some communities? Zack Polanski: I think people can experience as intimidation. And I think if those communities are intimidated, again the patriotic thing to do would be to have those conversations with your neighbours, have those conversations with the communities.

Labour's strategy since the election seems designed to appeal to right-conservative voters. This strategy hasn't worked on its own terms because they have lost the (very few) right-wing voters that they had, while also losing (much) larger numbers of left-wing voters.

Four graphs showing vote intention among 2024 Labour voters by immigration preferences (top-left), defence spending (top-right), taxation preferences (bottom-left), and welfare spending support (bottom-right). In short, each graph shows that Labour has lost a greater number of voters who support a 'left-liberal' position, while also losing the very few 'right-conservative' voters that they had at a higher rate.

Indeed. Far too much worrying about Polanski, about Farage, about the Ipsos' issues index, about individual polling, and not enough on 'how can we deliver election-winning budgets and spending rounds in 2027-8 and 2028-9'.

This'll be very telling when he comes to speak. If Farage uses his appearance in front of that committee to encourage a foreign state to bully his own country, he'll have crossed a very specific line.
