I have a similar wish about the pause in Divided Sky, where everyone screams. I think the silence is profound and preserves the delicate beauty of the song.

100% agree. And impromptu. Scheduling is the death of quick hangs.
Stokepoint (@stokepoint.bsky.social) reply parent
Funny they thought they could squeeze Factory Fiction, Hungersite, Dustin Hoffman, and Animal plus five other songs including a jammed out Western Sun into a 90 minute set.
Stokepoint (@stokepoint.bsky.social) reply parent
That’s beautiful and true

100%. The reality is, there is so much music out there that it floods the landscape. But there are gems out there. Counterintuitively, I think AI will yield more unique music from humans, as more vocalists like Adrianne Lenker and Cameron Winter with unconventional voices try to stand out.
Stokepoint (@stokepoint.bsky.social) reply parent
It can often seem music has become stagnant. That all the new artists are just regurgitating the styles and ideas of older artists. As I listened to the their new album today, I thought to myself, not Big Thief. This shit is evolved and pushing music forward.

As much as I loved Folsom as a venue, I wish I could say because the Folsom shows made up for no Dicks this year.

This is the news we should all be focusing on

Thank you! It’s been a long hard journey, with lots of scary moments, but it all paid off in the end. We’ll never book Goose, but I can say we’ve definitely booked some bands who have what it takes to make it big someday!

If he ever wants to chat, I’m available. I’m 51 now. I started at age 14, went to culinary school at age 22, and now own two restaurants, a bar/restaurant, and a small 100 cap music venue. I’ve learned a lot (mostly from mistakes!) and love to share advice to the youths!
Stokepoint (@stokepoint.bsky.social) reply parent
I left the industry at age 26. I was working 60 hours a week at the ritz Carlton and in bad shape—5’ 10”, 130 lbs. If I hadn’t left the industry then, I wouldn’t be here to type this skeet. Knowing when it’s time is crucial. You can always come back if you want. I did when I opened my own place.

Being productive today just got a lot harder. To coincide with their audio release of many Hail To The Thief live recordings, Radiohead just released this collection of unreleased live videos. l.os.fan/waste/_ir800x4

Yep! That, and double the odds a flight gets delayed. Eff that. At least on the road I can take a detour if there’s a delay. Road trip it is!
Stokepoint (@stokepoint.bsky.social) reply parent
I’ll be there! Still deciding whether to drive 7.5 hours or buy a shitty overpriced two-leg flight.

I have three aisle seats to Alpharetta and Charlotte. If you’re like me and need room to boogie, these seats are for you and your crew. I’m selling them for under face on CoT. Spread the word.

Oh hell yeah! Officially stoked!
Stokepoint (@stokepoint.bsky.social) reply parent
Omg I’m so pumped! The only comparable size place I’ve seen them was the Richmond Lincoln Theater in 2022. And while small, it’s not nearly as beautiful.
Stokepoint (@stokepoint.bsky.social) reply parent
It’s not this small, but I’m really looking forward to the palace theater show in Louisville precisely because of its small size.

Funny thing. I live in Durham, NC, one of the most progressive towns in the country. My kids and I go camping at Kerr Lake, 45 minutes away in one of the reddest parts of the state, and often stop at CB to eat on the way home. Sunday at CB is more racially diverse than any place in Durham.

On my bike ride out today, I heard a crack behind me, looked up and saw a thin 5’ branch falling from a tree over the trail. I chalked it up to a squirrel knocking loose a dead branch. This is what greeted me otw back.

I understand why Peter is referred to as a multi-instrumentalist, but where’s the line between that and just keyboardist? Put another way, how many vacuum solos makes Fishman a multi-instrumentalist?

Great episode! I appreciate the comment @hosewood.bsky.social made about how Wilmington A Western Sun reminds him of Llama. When I heard it, especially at 12 min mark or so, I thought “This sounds like 90s machine gun Trey”

My theory: Occupy Wall Street—a bipartisan revolt against the 1%—scared the shit out of both parties and the corporations who buy them. So they decided to fuel a culture war and divide us into as many groups as possible so we fight amongst ourselves instead.

13 years ago, I had someone look at my 100 yr old willow oak who said it was dying and said it needed to come down. $10k was the quote. Got two more opinions, both said it was healthy and fine. It’s still going strong. Big trees shed limbs as a means to keep healthy. It’s totally normal.

Agreed. By devaluing the price of recorded music, it deflates the price point of live music, too (for smaller up and coming artists anyway). I’m shocked by how many people turn away from the door at our 100-cap music venue b/c of a $5 cover for a band that could be the next Nirvana.
Stokepoint (@stokepoint.bsky.social)
The Dead had Drums and Space. I’m not saying @goose-band.bsky.social should do a M@rball segment at every show, but I definitely wouldn’t be mad if they did it every now and then.

Demand doesn’t explain it. Neither Folsom nor SPAC were/are sold out. And to attribute it to demand suggests there hasn’t been demand during the last decade. Something definitely changed on the back end when they changed the app.
Stokepoint (@stokepoint.bsky.social) reply parent
Idk. I’ve been on CoT for 10+ yrs and never experienced anything like this (post app update). It’s exactly as OP describes. Make offer and then wait. Post is removed, or I rescind so I can make an offer on another post. Never happened once before, but it’s happened 20 times in 2 weeks (Folsom/spac)

As the owner of a small 100 cap venue that regularly books dozens of unknown metal bands (and other genres too!), I love this so much. Please keep it up! If music is to evolve, it needs people to go out and support it…all of it, the loud, the weird, the unknown.
