Most studies are showing extra wear is really not that significant and the amount of particulate pollutants is still far less that a car that doesn’t have regen braking. Overall 83% less.
Sydney EV (@sydneyev.bsky.social) reply parent
Some but not a significant amount. Problem with many of those studies do not compare to the most common vehicles on the roads, heavy Utes with soft fast wearing off road tyres.
Sydney EV (@sydneyev.bsky.social) reply parent
The increase in tyre wear is only a few %. But overall it’s still a substantial decrease in particulate pollution from braking.

not really. i do find it strange how the concern over EV and tyre wear is high on the agenda, but the most common cars on Aussie roads are SUVs, and Utes with off road fast wearing tyres, that never go off road.

not sure on payback, probably near 10 years, haven't really calculated it yet, but in a rural area, the costs will always be higher as a grid connection alone could cost over $70K. our grid connection came in at $15K, so total cost of the system over the grid connection, not sure yet.

Great work here from @carbonbrief.org , debunking common myths about solar power. The reason that solar power makes so much sense is fundamental physics - it takes energy in its most useful form, as soon as it arrives on Earth, before it's "taxed" in entropy. Making use of it is a slam-dunk win.
