To carry 50,000 people per hour in each direction, a city needs a 175m wide road for cars. Even if those cars are electric. And then there’s all the parking. OR a city can move A LOT MORE people in a lot less space, with A LOT LESS public money, emissions, pollution, noise etc. Choices. Simple.

Graphic showing a 9 m wide track for metros can move as many people as a 175 m road for cars.

If I had been kind, and if I had time, I would’ve tried to explain to the woman that masking keeps one from getting sick and that moving a few spaces away from me would not save her. However, I doubt that she would’ve understood or that she would’ve believed me.

I may have been the safest person in the room. My husband, who also consistently masks, & I were boosted about a month ago. To my knowledge, we have not had Covid. No one else in the yoga class was masking. It irritated me that the woman assumed the only reason I would mask is if I was sick.

I too have respiratory issues, and that is one reason why I mask in public places, including yoga. It is difficult to do hard yoga wearing a KN 95, but I have been wearing it consistently for years. Moving a few spaces away from me would not save that woman from disease-containing aerosols.

Composite shows four Hubble images in quarters. At top left is a crisp view of Mars in shades of orange, blues, and browns. At top right is planetary nebula NGC 2899, which is shaped like a single macaroni noodle, with its central torus appearing semi-transparent and blue and green, and its top and bottom edges in orange. At bottom left is a tiny portion of the Rosette Nebula. Very dark gray material shaped like a triangle takes up the center. At bottom right is barred spiral galaxy NGC 5335 with a milky yellow center that forms a bar surrounded by multiple blue star-filled spiral arms that wrap up counterclockwise.

🧵"So this is how liberty dies..." Trump’s first 3 weeks have been a relentless flood of actions. It's incredibly hard to keep up. I’ve gone through 69 actions & mapped out the pattern - showing how they fall within 5 broad domains consistent with authoritarian states 1/9

This is a venn diagram showing how 69 Trump actions map onto domains covering: undermining democratic institutions; suppressing dissent and media; dismantling social protections; attacking science and education; destabilising the global order. “And when 90, 95 percent of public space, the space that we all own through our taxes, through being citizens, when 90 percent of that is allocated to cars and driving, then of course you’re gonna think that that is the mode that we should prioritize.”

Great point here: Poilievre is not doing anything useful in dealing with the US. He’s all slogans & slime.

1/2 🧵 There *is* a pandemic for animals. And no one cares if it mutates to spread more efficiently among humans. If they did, they’d act. Instead, humans risk exposure through farming, raw meat, walking their dog, or sitting in a vet's office—with zero warnings.
