To carry 50,000 people per hour in each direction, a city needs a 175m wide road for cars. Even if those cars are electric. And then there’s all the parking. OR a city can move A LOT MORE people in a lot less space, with A LOT LESS public money, emissions, pollution, noise etc. Choices. Simple.

Then there’s the pedestrian experience: I’m always watching for cyclists. They come up from behind, no bells mostly. Some ride like there’s no one else on the trail. Some swear at pedestrians. If I’m riding, I use my bell. As you said, some pedestrians will veer into my path or not react.

If I had been kind, and if I had time, I would’ve tried to explain to the woman that masking keeps one from getting sick and that moving a few spaces away from me would not save her. However, I doubt that she would’ve understood or that she would’ve believed me.

I may have been the safest person in the room. My husband, who also consistently masks, & I were boosted about a month ago. To my knowledge, we have not had Covid. No one else in the yoga class was masking. It irritated me that the woman assumed the only reason I would mask is if I was sick.
Lisa Morry (@teapottrail.bsky.social) reply parent
I too have respiratory issues, and that is one reason why I mask in public places, including yoga. It is difficult to do hard yoga wearing a KN 95, but I have been wearing it consistently for years. Moving a few spaces away from me would not save that woman from disease-containing aerosols.
Lisa Morry (@teapottrail.bsky.social)
Yesterday, a woman at yoga asked me if I was wearing a mask because I was sick. I was in pain and had had a crappy day at work, & my response was not kind. I asked her if she was sick and that was why she was not wearing a mask. She moved away from me, saying she had respiratory issues.
