Perfect!

My neighbors chickens come over every morning, usually 5 red girls, sometimes a brown hen joins them. They have trained me to give them a snack. If I don’t get the food out to them promptly, they peer in the pet door. They talk to me while I water the garden. It’s lovely.
Debbie B. (@texasgardenbee.bsky.social) reply parent
It was surprising to me how social chickens are. We met every morning for coffee and conversation. Rocky loved to nap on my lap. I don’t have chickens at the moment but my neighbor’s chickens come over every morning. They have trained me to give them a snack.
Debbie B. (@texasgardenbee.bsky.social) reply parent
Beautiful kitty in a beautiful garden.
Debbie B. (@texasgardenbee.bsky.social) reply parent
How special!
Debbie B. (@texasgardenbee.bsky.social) reply parent
Rocky was a barred rock chicken, my favorite kind of chicken. Here she is helping take an on-line class.
Debbie B. (@texasgardenbee.bsky.social) reply parent
My orange boy stole a French fry this morning and ran off with it.
Debbie B. (@texasgardenbee.bsky.social) reply parent
We had a chicken named Rocky because we thought she was a rooster.
Debbie B. (@texasgardenbee.bsky.social) reply parent
Get a cat. Kiss off everything else you own.
Debbie B. (@texasgardenbee.bsky.social) reply parent
Have you been to the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone? The falls are impressive.
Debbie B. (@texasgardenbee.bsky.social) reply parent
That’s only fair.
Debbie B. (@texasgardenbee.bsky.social) reply parent
Great to hear the princess has an appetite. Missy is always thinking of others. She knows being up in the middle of the night together is a bonding experience.
Debbie B. (@texasgardenbee.bsky.social) reply parent
I bet that handsome dog is having the time of his life.
Debbie B. (@texasgardenbee.bsky.social) reply parent
Great month to be outside. Have a wonderful time.
Debbie B. (@texasgardenbee.bsky.social) reply parent
Number 4 is perfect for the state of American politics. But I have to go with #3. Indeed a 12-hour nap.
Debbie B. (@texasgardenbee.bsky.social) reply parent
Probably. It seems to grow most places. New Orleans is hot and humid. You can order from the Antique Rose Emporium.
Debbie B. (@texasgardenbee.bsky.social) reply parent
Where did you ride it out? Hotel?
Debbie B. (@texasgardenbee.bsky.social) reply parent
Kitties are so good at bed making chores.
Debbie B. (@texasgardenbee.bsky.social) reply parent
Well, Parkin. It looks comfy. Like a pillow.
Debbie B. (@texasgardenbee.bsky.social) reply parent
The deer photo matches the vibe in America at the moment. I blew water out my nose.
Debbie B. (@texasgardenbee.bsky.social) reply parent
Little Debbie
Debbie B. (@texasgardenbee.bsky.social) reply parent
Both. Plan ahead and keep emergency stash.
Debbie B. (@texasgardenbee.bsky.social) reply parent
Lovely photo. WAIT! Cats can spell correctly in French?
Debbie B. (@texasgardenbee.bsky.social) reply parent
Wow! Impressive news! Congratulations! I must say, Flanoy, you deserve it. Your tacos are delicious.
Debbie B. (@texasgardenbee.bsky.social) reply parent
It’s the rose in my header photo.
Debbie B. (@texasgardenbee.bsky.social)
Peggy Martin rose has been growing in my garden for 4 years. I haven’t watered it in 3 years. It gets bigger every year and puts on a spectacular boom in the spring. apple.news/AxZ8Kvdz5RIa...
Debbie B. (@texasgardenbee.bsky.social) reply parent
“Do you see what is happening out there?”
Debbie B. (@texasgardenbee.bsky.social) reply parent
Thanks for the bird fact and the Snowy Egret photo. Both great.
Debbie B. (@texasgardenbee.bsky.social) reply parent
My dog, Jack, would drop his head, his tail would droop between his legs and he would walk slowly away. Total strangers would point and exclaim “Sad!” I fixed it. I never went anywhere unless he came with me.
Debbie B. (@texasgardenbee.bsky.social) reply parent
I did the same thing with a large pork roast. Awful.
Debbie B. (@texasgardenbee.bsky.social) reply parent
Perfect! Love this angle.
Debbie B. (@texasgardenbee.bsky.social) reply parent
I’m hard on myself if I’m not productive. But now that I’m getting older, I tell myself rest is productive. If I take a day off, sit on the porch with coffee, read a book, nap in the afternoon, I feel stronger and rested and more motivated the next day.
Debbie B. (@texasgardenbee.bsky.social) reply parent
Flanoy! You are so smart, communicating with grandpa.
Debbie B. (@texasgardenbee.bsky.social) reply parent
Trails beckon. What’s around that bend up there?
Debbie B. (@texasgardenbee.bsky.social) reply parent
It’s wonderful to have a partner that takes interest in what you are doing, isn’t it?
Debbie B. (@texasgardenbee.bsky.social) reply parent
World class Loafers.
Debbie B. (@texasgardenbee.bsky.social) reply parent
Today we heard U.S. vegetable prices are up 37% due to immigration policies and climate change. That’s the last thing America needs - less healthy food.
Debbie B. (@texasgardenbee.bsky.social) reply parent
But her emails…
Debbie B. (@texasgardenbee.bsky.social) reply parent
I think about those guys and wonder if they made it home that night.
Debbie B. (@texasgardenbee.bsky.social) reply parent
P.S. I was hiking in Great Smokies NP, coming down off the Appalachian Trail at dusk, hurrying to my camp site before nightfall. I met 2 young men, under the influence of cannabis, heading up. They announced they were going to kill a bear and produced a hunting knife to prove their point. 1/2
Debbie B. (@texasgardenbee.bsky.social) reply parent
Here in Texas where we have many varieties of venomous snakes, some of them very common, the most frequent victims of snake bite are young men, below age 25, with alcohol on board. They are most often bitten in the hand because they are trying to pick up the snake.
Debbie B. (@texasgardenbee.bsky.social) reply parent
Looked like he was thinking about following you off the trail for a second there.
Debbie B. (@texasgardenbee.bsky.social) reply parent
Lovely.
Debbie B. (@texasgardenbee.bsky.social) reply parent
Whoa! Gloriously beautiful.
Debbie B. (@texasgardenbee.bsky.social) reply parent
Parkin, finding new ways to wake the humans. Fine cattin, my friend.
Debbie B. (@texasgardenbee.bsky.social) reply parent
#2 is my continuous state of mind since January 20. So I vote for #2. Flanoy, you express it perfectly.
Debbie B. (@texasgardenbee.bsky.social) reply parent
FIfi! Such a beautiful girl!
Debbie B. (@texasgardenbee.bsky.social) reply parent
You mean you were going to blame your family for a mistake, (not quite the right word,) that you made? Been there, done that. But really, I have provided my fur babies with thousands of dollars of food and care. And not one of them has returned a single dollar. They owe me.
Debbie B. (@texasgardenbee.bsky.social) reply parent
I understand #karlthefog may be wearing out his welcome, but I love fog. It’s mysterious. Sit in the fog and listen to the sounds.
Debbie B. (@texasgardenbee.bsky.social) reply parent
Sitting ON the box is dipping your toe in the joy, Flanoy. And later, once the box is empty, you can get IN the box and immerse yourself in joy.
Debbie B. (@texasgardenbee.bsky.social) reply parent
That beak!
Debbie B. (@texasgardenbee.bsky.social) reply parent
Beautiful. Love all the detail.
Debbie B. (@texasgardenbee.bsky.social) reply parent
Yes, they are.
Debbie B. (@texasgardenbee.bsky.social) reply parent
He looks so innocent. But we all know what he’s thinking: “Where can I find more food.”
Debbie B. (@texasgardenbee.bsky.social) reply parent
Such a gorgeous kitty. You both are.
Debbie B. (@texasgardenbee.bsky.social) reply parent
Lyle, one of my fav parts of your book is when you told family members that you are an atheist and they responded “I thought you were intelligent.” LOL
Debbie B. (@texasgardenbee.bsky.social) reply parent
He can’t help it. Mr. McQueen is still v v hungry. Even if the growing has slowed, he’ll need to get enough calories to support his weight, that enormous tail and all that hair.
Debbie B. (@texasgardenbee.bsky.social) reply parent
I know that food stare. You better get a move on.
Debbie B. (@texasgardenbee.bsky.social) reply parent
If you don’t mind laying diagonal.
Debbie B. (@texasgardenbee.bsky.social) reply parent
I unashamedly use this guy’s religion against him. I tell him snakes and all other animals are “God’s creatures,” they play an important role in the environment and we have no right to kill them.
Debbie B. (@texasgardenbee.bsky.social) reply parent
Yes, we probably already are reliant on AI in ways that aren’t obvious, at least to me.
Debbie B. (@texasgardenbee.bsky.social) reply parent
AI is accelerating collapse. It requires vast amounts of power and water at the very least. Soon, we’ll be reliant on it just the way we are reliant on digital technology and every other “advancement.”
Debbie B. (@texasgardenbee.bsky.social) reply parent
This is a disturbing story. I’ve known plenty of people who kill animals for fun or just because they exist. One of my co-workers, an evangelical Christian, kills snakes on sight and thinks everyone agrees with him.
Debbie B. (@texasgardenbee.bsky.social) reply parent
Yes, and high prices on fresh produce, and poultry and some dairy. Tarriffs will increase beef and coffee prices even more than they have already gone up. Beef and coffee are American staples. Around the world, when coffee becomes scarce, people take to the streets.
Debbie B. (@texasgardenbee.bsky.social) reply parent
People who rely on groundwater are in the deepest denial about our ever-worsening water situation. They can’t see how much they don’t have left so they choose to pretend they aren’t facing a crisis. I wish articles like this could reach everyone.
Debbie B. (@texasgardenbee.bsky.social) reply parent
A bird, I think, holding out it’s wings.
Debbie B. (@texasgardenbee.bsky.social) reply parent
Oh Bertie, you and your dade are both so lucky.
Debbie B. (@texasgardenbee.bsky.social)
Can’t believe I got a picture of these juvenile barn swallows resting on the rail. Click to see the whole picture.
Debbie B. (@texasgardenbee.bsky.social) reply parent
Okay, okay. You can be the man of the house and keep the mice away while she’s gone. And of course, she must return with presents.
Debbie B. (@texasgardenbee.bsky.social) reply parent
Coffee was good too.
Debbie B. (@texasgardenbee.bsky.social) reply parent
Idea: be very loving and cuddly. Act like you missed her so much, you almost died of sadness. She’ll feel too guilty to ever leave again. (I like Bertie’s idea of taking the keys too.)
Debbie B. (@texasgardenbee.bsky.social) reply parent
Mary! Welcome to BlueSky. Look at that face! What a character. Jenni will have you feeling lots better soon. And she’ll fix your hair do as well! Good days are ahead for you.
Debbie B. (@texasgardenbee.bsky.social) reply parent
Cool building. Any plans for use? I’m thinking chicken coop.
Debbie B. (@texasgardenbee.bsky.social) reply parent
I think I grew Sun Gold. I pick most of my red tomatoes early and let them ripen inside. Cuts down on loss to birds, insects, squirrels. I’ll try that with the yellow.
Debbie B. (@texasgardenbee.bsky.social) reply parent
I tried growing a highly recommended yellow tomato a few years ago. I had a difficult time recognizing when the tomatoes were ripe and let them get over ripe. I’ve got to try again, practice getting into the yellow tomato state of mind.
Debbie B. (@texasgardenbee.bsky.social) reply parent
My friend gifted me 6-7 tomato seedlings all crowded into a single tiny pot. I didn’t have the time to tease them apart and just stuck them in an empty spot in the garden. The plants grew huge, in spite of the challenging start. The tomatoes are beautiful and delicious. Have no idea what they are.
Debbie B. (@texasgardenbee.bsky.social) reply parent
What delicate beauties.
Debbie B. (@texasgardenbee.bsky.social) reply parent
Can’t say for sure what Abilene is thinking but it probably has something to do with jobs and growth. Humans sacrifice themselves on the alter of economic growth.
Debbie B. (@texasgardenbee.bsky.social) reply parent
Data centers also require lots of cooling water. The Texas Water Board admits they didn’t consider data centers when planning to meet water needs. Even dry areas, like Abilene, have permitted huge centers and are already suffering from lack of water.
Debbie B. (@texasgardenbee.bsky.social) reply parent
Here in Texas, huge data centers are popping up across the state. Data centers require lots of electricity, taxing the already fragile and unregulated grid.
Debbie B. (@texasgardenbee.bsky.social) reply parent
Great job, Jasper. When you are through there, get back to the curtains. They won’t hold themselves up.
Debbie B. (@texasgardenbee.bsky.social) reply parent
That looks like heaven, Flanoy. Wish I was there beside you. I wouldn’t even care if Karl showed up.
Debbie B. (@texasgardenbee.bsky.social) reply parent
Right from the start, it is inevitable.
Debbie B. (@texasgardenbee.bsky.social) reply parent
What a treat. Thanks for sharing.
Debbie B. (@texasgardenbee.bsky.social) reply parent
Think those are asiatic lilies. Beautiful color. Love lilies but am focused on native plants and pollinator favorites.
Debbie B. (@texasgardenbee.bsky.social) reply parent
I see a similar plant growing wild along country roads where I walk. I assumed some sort of allium but didn’t know what they are. Maybe the same plant.
Debbie B. (@texasgardenbee.bsky.social) reply parent
Kale flowered last spring after growing from early fall through winter. Flowers were entrancing. I let my lettuce go to seed every year and then enjoy seedlings the next spring. I haven’t bought lettuce seeds in years. Black-seeded Simpson is the only reliable producer in this neck of the woods.
Debbie B. (@texasgardenbee.bsky.social) reply parent
I live the bean and cuke support. Is that wire or string? Did you make it yourself?
Debbie B. (@texasgardenbee.bsky.social) reply parent
Nice!
Debbie B. (@texasgardenbee.bsky.social) reply parent
Are those cherry tomatoes?
Debbie B. (@texasgardenbee.bsky.social) reply parent
Looks like she is getting A++ care. She knows she is lucky.
Debbie B. (@texasgardenbee.bsky.social) reply parent
Oh! Sushi is right up your aisle, Flash. I mean if you leave off the rice and…everything else except the fish. That’s the best part and perfect for you.
Debbie B. (@texasgardenbee.bsky.social) reply parent
I bet Japanese kitties have cool toys! I’m thinking oragami mice and birds.
Debbie B. (@texasgardenbee.bsky.social) reply parent
It’s such a treat to see Grazer and Biggie up close like this. Thanks so much for posting.
Debbie B. (@texasgardenbee.bsky.social) reply parent
So…what exactly is the battle of the bedsheets? Is that where the human is not allowed to make the bed because it is occupied? Not to brag but my cats win that battle frequently without making a move. I know better than to try to move anybody napping on the bed.
Debbie B. (@texasgardenbee.bsky.social) reply parent
We love you Flanoy. And we love kitties. Many thanks to your Mom for giving us the chance to donate to a good cause. Thanks for putting together the entry. It was so easy to donate.
Debbie B. (@texasgardenbee.bsky.social) reply parent
Looks like Parkin is enjoying the fresh nip. Is the new chair looking better?
Debbie B. (@texasgardenbee.bsky.social) reply parent
Suddenly seems to be happening at blazing speed. Is the race to extinction accelerating, Lyle?
Debbie B. (@texasgardenbee.bsky.social) reply parent
It’s here. It’s happening right now. Collapse.
