Right! "Journaling" is the word we have, but it can really mean any way of processing the play. For some that's long written entries, for others it might be voice notes, a shorthand only they understand, or nothing at all. What matters is that the process supports the way you want to play.
Smart. Would be smart for game writers to make an easy cheat-sheet that can be photo coppied and pasted in.
Are you recording in first person or third person? When I write journals, I seem to jump back and forth between perspective.

Jotting down the first reaction is great advice. Don't worry about finding the "right" answer.
Nice layered approach. And good for you with sticking with one notebook. I have so many little Muji notebooks that I've only used the first few pages of. I've now moved to a big sketch pad which also allows me tor practice silly drawings of what's going on in my game.
Yes! This is important. Some work I would never share. Some solo experiences can be very personal. That's one of the benefits of a solo game. But usually for me it's that it's just silly notes that only make sense to me.
I can't concentrate on the game when I'm on the computer. And I also tend to get cought up in the "writing" instead of the game because I'm so used to using the PC for getting to a finished piece of work.
That’s such a good point. If you get bogged down worrying about the writing, you risk losing the game.
