This isn’t a surprise. The Jays can’t sell anyone on their plan, even though they continue to pay more than the teams who sign the FA’s. Even Santander is waiting for anything else close to choose
The girl was in on 11 of the 14 goals her team scored in the entire tournament. It was 9 of 9 before the final game. She’s dominant but doesn’t have a team with similar skill. She is definitely the most valuable player to her team

I think they truly felt they could sign Soto, whether that was realistic or not. Their whole plan seemed to hinge on that. And plan B has been blown up with guys who won’t sign here regardless of the money being offered
Burnes seeking out a deal that pays him less than the Jays offered. Santander’s offer and the subsequent updated offer from the weekend. It all screams that no one is willing to sign with them based on what they are hearing from the front office.
I mean across the board. I’m pretty certain that Vlad will leave after this year now. Which is pathetic considering they had a homegrown star who could be the face of the franchise. But it’s across the board.
I’m starting to believe they are trying hard and offering good deals, but they can’t show a plan to winning that any of the FA’s believe in, so the FA’s are going elsewhere - sometimes for less.

Ummm I got fired from a job I didn’t really enjoy because I wasn’t done schooling, even though I told them it couldn’t happen. Turned into a better job, with better pay and closer to home, in a much more supportive environment.
I do recognize that Burnes and Teo were for other decisions or reasons but if they were confident in the direction they wouldn’t have left money on the table. Burnes went to Arizona after it had been reported the Jays offered at least 250 million, so he saw what the plan was and said not worth it
I don’t disagree that you can use Springer/Gausman/Bassitt as counters but that was when the team had a clear plan. Bo/Vlad were young and they were coming in at the start to build. Ohtani and no pivot last year, now the results this year and none of the players see a plan.
I was on board with taking a shot going in to the off season, but it’s obvious they cannot attract the talent they target, so it feels like the word is out across the league. Perhaps it’s just me being cynical but it feels like its time to stick a fork in this core
Based on the fact they couldn’t get Burnes done with a reportedly better offer makes me think they should just deal Vlad now because it seems like they can’t attract what they need. I don’t know there is another option
