That Pritzker press conference was... surreal, and I think marks a significant moment of escalation in the constitutional omni-crisis. This was the governor of a state saying plainly the Union itself is being torn apart and his state is being militarily invaded by an authoritarian regime.
Yesterday we visited Green Mountain Falls, CO to visit the kinetic sculpture Off the Beaten Path by Patrick Shearn. I wasn’t ready for just how dynamic it was even in the slightest breeze. Reminds me of a murmuration of starlings. Incredible artwork. It’ll only be up through October 19th.

Seems like it makes it easy to clean and change I don’t feed the hummingbirds until October. They have so much food to eat here, but the downside is I don’t get any pictures of them.

I leave the live-rat traps up all day and put them under the suet feeders, so they catch any suet that falls. Here is Song Sparrow showing the tree rats that the cages are safe. (I hope they are watching. I wait until the birds leave. I clean up every bit of suet not in the cage and set.)

Good Afternoon. I may not check much footage today. My eyes are really bothering me. I think there’s fire smoke near us, but I did see these two at the #wildlifepond. It’s a Flicker and a Steller’s Jay. There was three clips and I made this compilation. I left the sound on despite the static. 🪶
Flicker demonstrating her problem solving skills. #Birds This feeder is inside a cage, and the cage is bigger than the feeder. Flicker clinging goes from side to side to see if she can make the feeder lean towards her. Then she uses her long beak, neck and ant-eater tongue to get suet. Success!

🐙🌿 I found a longhorn beetle on milkweed, and it is... wait for it... a milkweed longhorn beetle. (Tetraopes sp., at night in Montana.) An interesting detail is that the compound eyes of some beetles (and many other insects) aren't just round or oval, but have an indentation or notch in them--

Sometimes, it's just too much for a baby bear and more nap time is needed. 😁 Mama was in the garden wandering around so she wasn't far away as her cub tried to get a bit more shut eye. All tucked up like this, the cub is remarkably compact. #mammals

Well, no owls or raptor have showed up to kill them that I know of. I think I’ve killed about all the babies. I think there’s one left (cameras) and they now only come out between four and five a.m. , and they stay on the perimeter of my property. They know every place I can shoot from and avoid.

Thank you Kristine, I have missed the low light of the other seasons. Here summer is so intense and the light is so high, it’s hard to get good footage except for late in the day or early in the morning.
Everyone loves the #minipond. Here is a dark eye Junco bathing and then there is a chestnut backed chickadee towards the foreground drinking. #Birds the mini pond is filled with some pond plants, deadwood, leaf litter, and it surrounded by plants and trees. My second camera is in the background.

Raccoon licking his paw and feeling around the mini pond with his paws then he exits on the left crossing over the pond. This is a black-and-white footage. This is the raccoon that has part of his tail Missy.
Autumn lighting is starting to appear. It makes the birds stand out. Here is Black Capped Chickadee (they leave and return) at the flat concrete bath placed at ground level. #Birds the Chickadee takes a bath and some times they look at the camera.

It looks like Raccoon went through and moved all the logs that were close to the camera, so I could get better footage of the birds bathing in the wildlife pond—- so here is a Steller’s Jay and she’s very far away from the camera because she needs a stick/log to bath on. She’s in the pond #Birds

Thank you it’s really lovely. I can only handle one of my dogs at a time. My other dog is really bonded with my adult kids and my husband. She really enjoys having a break from Koda who is more intense than her.
