(But the planets haven’t half aligned for her, haven’t they? 😉) My issue is more with the race itself: it’s still too short and dare I suggest not different enough from other races in the calendar. Itzulia or the Tour de Suisse arguably have as much bang for buck over fewer stages.
AvdB winning (and that’s not exactly nailed-on) will be because she started today 9 minutes down on GC. PFP isn’t the problem - I’m not a fan but she raced it perfectly and can only beat who turns up, and to suggest she hasn’t been the best of the field these 9 stages would be a nonsense.
This is undoubtedly the result the ASO dreamed about but we’re going to have to redefine what “GC rider” means in the WWT if a rider can take a decade off and then put 3 minutes into last year’s GC podium on the queen stage of the jewel in women’s cycling’s crown. #CyclingBlueSky #TdFF2025.

Coming up on 4 years now. No proof it was Covid booster-related (“correlation does not equal causation, Mr Fairley”) but every year at my annual check-in/up the nurse asks “was this after Covid?”
I thought I’d had a chest infection (and so did hospital) but a couple of weeks later broke down on a climb that would normally be a leg-tester but not a total lung-buster. Scary. My GP was not happy at all and sent me back for new x-rays and lurking beneath the infection were a bunch of PEs.
