It’s about disarming people who might resist, and they’re starting with an already marginalized group. This will be expanded to include anyone they don’t like and it accomplishes nothing to accuse them of hypocrisy. They don’t care. They are after ends and means don’t matter to them anymore.
We could do something useful by banning people who domestic violence convictions from owning guns... but then there would be a police staffing crisis.
