Free Kilmar!!!

I don't think I can get any more outraged and then a story like this pops up. ICE detained a breast-feeding mother for 2.5 months in a facility designed only for men - her crime was to call the police for help after a DV incident. The absolute horror that she endured...I can't begin to imagine.

Nothing says welcome and joy to people awaiting their naturalization interviews like these messages in the USCIS lobby.

Panel went well! Nothing like ending a four day conference like presenting on domestic violence…but I think we still ended on a positive note - restoring hope.
Tracie Morgan (@thetraciemorgan.bsky.social)
I'll be honest...I was worried that our annual conference for immigration lawyers would be depressing. And while the work is hard, the main feeling I'm coming away with is RESILIENCE.

Such a great panel - such incredible intelligence at one table!

Immigrants are vital to this country. To members of our immigrant community: we see you, we value you, and we will fight for you.

Was at a local university today…love me some good old fashioned college truth-telling!

As an immigration attorney, I feel like there's a legal term for this...oh...bull $hit, that's the one!
Tracie Morgan (@thetraciemorgan.bsky.social)
The world is upside down. White South Africans being granted refugee status while TPS for Afghanistan is terminated. Make it make sense!
Tracie Morgan (@thetraciemorgan.bsky.social)
I’m glad that people are paying attention, but some of the things we see in the media are totally ‘normal’ in the immigration world. It reminds me how awful the system is and how we shouldn’t accept it.
Tracie Morgan (@thetraciemorgan.bsky.social)
As an immigration lawyer, my work is an active resistance… Please pray for me and my client as we have an asylum trial today!
Tracie Morgan (@thetraciemorgan.bsky.social)
In high school, my dream was to become a meteorologist. It was easy to get the bug and storm chase back in Kansas. Now I’m an immigration lawyer. Not sure which is more stressful, but am grateful for @altnoaa.bsky.social because they give me the best of the wx and resistance!
Tracie Morgan (@thetraciemorgan.bsky.social)
I only have one photo with a politician. I made sure it was a good one!

Immigration lawyers never back down from a fight…so grateful for this group of amazing advocates. We need each other now more than ever!

I think the flights to El Salvador constitute human trafficking. Will the Venezuelans sent there ever get out? Will the U.S. ever be held to account?

Way to go USCIS! I filed humanitarian parole applications in late 2021 for a family in Afghanistan (the mother was left a widow after her husband died while fighting with US troops). The applications were denied today because the program is now cancelled. #screamingintothevoid

“I was hungry” and you cut $1 Billion in funding to schools and food banks. “I was sick” and you worked to gut medicaid, depriving me of healthcare. “I was a stranger” and you defined my humanity by legal status. “What ever you do to the least of these, you do unto me.”-Jesus

One thing I didn’t expect…the joy in resistance. Spent the day with awesome immigration attorneys and despite the insanity, we are all energized and ready for the fight.

People are not pawns.

I've been an immigration lawyer for about 15 years. I'm just now realizing that these clients and cases have become part of my DNA. I see a name, I immediately go back to their struggles and successes. I feel the frustration or joy we felt at the time. This work changes you.
Tracie Morgan (@thetraciemorgan.bsky.social)
I’ve had some great dinners out with friends lately. So good that we didn’t get selfies. But man, they were good for the soul!

I don’t want to see people hurt, but I do want to people to see that there are consequences to their votes. People may not watch the news, but they do eat at Waffle House. www.khou.com/video/life/f...

Noting that Elon Musk attacked the Lutheran Church's work providing services, and that JD Vance attacked Catholic Bishops for their work with immigrants. Fair to say that this administration is one of the most hostile to religion and religious freedom that we have seen in recent memory.
Tracie Morgan (@thetraciemorgan.bsky.social)
Just did a Zoom call for clients talking about know your rights, how EOs impact them and answered a ton of thoughtful questions. I hate that I have to do this, but am grateful to be in a position to help and educate!
Tracie Morgan (@thetraciemorgan.bsky.social)
I know I’m biased since I’m my own boss, but how do federal employees (specifically those dealing with immigration agencies) go from helping people one day to hurting them the next when the administration changes? It can’t be easy to go against your morals, whichever side you’re on.
Tracie Morgan (@thetraciemorgan.bsky.social) reply parent
Deport the criminals, absolutely. Deport the elderly, the sick, the dreamers, the workers, the domestic violence survivors, and so many others who just want to do good...I'm not okay with that.

-ICE must have a judicial warrant to enter a non-public space (your home, place of worship, school, place of employment). A judicial warrant is issued by a judge in a court - not by immigration officers.
Tracie Morgan (@thetraciemorgan.bsky.social) reply parent
- You have the right to remain silent if ICE questions you. You can ask to talk with an attorney before answering questions and refuse to sign paperwork until you do. You don't have to tell ICE where you were born or when you entered the US.
Tracie Morgan (@thetraciemorgan.bsky.social) reply parent
Know your rights (and you can share this with your immigrant friends when they come to you for guidance as an American they trust).
Tracie Morgan (@thetraciemorgan.bsky.social) reply parent
- If you don't have legal status, have a safety plan. Have a power of attorney for your financial and medical needs. Have a plan for your children - make sure trusted non-family members can pick your children up from school and that your children have a list of emergency contacts.
Tracie Morgan (@thetraciemorgan.bsky.social) reply parent
- If you don't have legal status, be careful. Make sure your car lights all work, that you don't have illegal tinting. Don't do anything to bring attention to yourself. Don't commit a crime - if you do that, all bets are off.
Tracie Morgan (@thetraciemorgan.bsky.social) reply parent
them. - If you are a US citizen, be a friend. Be someone who can be trusted. - If you have legal status in the US, carry proof of your status. Carry the original green card or work card. - If you have a case pending with USCIS, carry your receipts.

The dust definitely hasn't settled, but I've had a few minutes to think through what I want people to know about the state of immigration now.... - Be kind to each other. The immigrant community is on edge and anyone who knows an immigrant is worried about them.

If your Christianity causes you to be offended by someone asking the most powerful person in the country to be merciful towards the powerless, then you have profoundly misunderstood the teachings of Jesus Christ.

Beyond disappointed in Warnock and Ossoff. They know the Laken Riley Act had nothing to do with her and tragic murder, but gave into guilt trips and peer pressure. I expect my Senators to have a backbone and they were spineless.
