turning the show into yet another episode of alternating between public self-aggrandisement and self-psychotherapy. I'm hoping, as did one caller, that Greens and Lib-Dems can find some common ground and put together a solid front. But as for O'Brien, as always, liberals eat their own.

Listening to James O'Brien talking about @zackpolanski.bsky.social winning the Green Party leadership and my God, what the hell is wrong with him? Seriously, the Tories and Tory Lites (ie: Labour) have no better friend than he. Mind you, as usual, he made it all about himself... 1/2

The... good... ish... news? We tried this in the early 1900s. Capitalists keep forgetting that if they get rid of the workers, then there won't be anyone left to buy their goods. Which is basically what happened in the 1900-1920 period and was a major cause of the 1929 crash and then the Depression.
The Werewolf (@thewerewolf.bsky.social) reply parent
In essence, that's the reason the two party system the US seems saddled with (but was never supposed to be the norm) causes the weirdness in US politics. You have two right wing parties - far-right and center-right - and so by math, the real 'center' is somewhere on the right.
The Werewolf (@thewerewolf.bsky.social) reply parent
So, view from outside the US? Your liberals are, to the rest of the world, center-right. In Canada, for example, our Conservatives are to the left of your Republicans. Our Liberals, which we consider 'centrists', are to the left of your Democrats and you have nothing like our NDP - our left.
The Werewolf (@thewerewolf.bsky.social)
Yep... I've seen this mindset in action on the left. America does it this way and always has, so your proposal, which works everywhere else, won't work here. So, your suggestion is "give up"? PS: No, America has NOT always done it this way - so problem one, stop revising history.

Unfortunately, at the moment, "Going to SCOTUS for a decision" is the same as "Giving Trump the win." Technically, Trump cannot impose tariffs, that's Congress' domain (USC:Β§8ΒΆ1). However, Congress can and did give him selective permission to (IEEPA). So.... www.ctvnews.ca/world/trumps...

Those are all benefits to the carrier... as I suggested. :) Personally, I have had LOTS of problems with eSIMs but that was a while ago, so maybe it's gotten better.
The Werewolf (@thewerewolf.bsky.social) reply parent
It's a couple of issues. Last time I used an eSIM, you had to be on the carrier's network to switch and they have to send you an email with a QRCode to scan on that phone to load and register the eSIM. So switching while travelling (ie outside the US) when you might not have email is a pain.
The Werewolf (@thewerewolf.bsky.social) reply parent
Good point. I missed that. The SIM has to register on the carrier's network and does that by presenting "secrets" generated using the crypto keys in the SIM and the phone's IMEI. So yeah, they totally know if you change phones.
The Werewolf (@thewerewolf.bsky.social) reply parent
This is part of the problem for me. The SIM is the token for access to the service for which I'm paying. What phone I use it with is no business of the carrier as long as the phone I'm using it in complies with ITU and local wireless standards.
The Werewolf (@thewerewolf.bsky.social)
Oh yeah... It's Wednesday again...

Uhm... that's kind of the *point* of the liquor boycott. Trump's tariffs are hurting Canada's trade with the US, so we're punching back. My bet is that most of these distillers voted Trump. FAFO, as they say. Still, nice to know it's working. www.youtube.com/watch?v=dyyf...

Well, she does identify as "MAGA-lite" and that kind of is their goal...
The Werewolf (@thewerewolf.bsky.social) reply parent
Weird reason for that - but I also suspect this will drive a significant number of people to dual "SIM" phones like the current Pixels and most current Samsungs which have a real SIM and an eSIM slot. Best of both worlds.
The Werewolf (@thewerewolf.bsky.social) reply parent
Just to clarify - US carriers like eSIMs because it's *harder* to move your eSIM around than it is with a physical SIM? If so, yes, I agree and that matches my experiences with eSIMs. I'm not so sure with worker fraud because they can "SIM swap" without actually having your SIM.

In the end, the reality is that a lot of (but not all) low passenger/vehicle traffic can act like a fluid flowing over a network of open channels, able to change route on demand while buses tends to act more like water flowing through a limited set of closed pipes.
The Werewolf (@thewerewolf.bsky.social) reply parent
Interurban rail helps since it's disconnected from the normal traffic, but then we're back to the last kilometer problem again. One option is to have "transit taxi" included in the fare to cover that part. But then you end up with a different kind of congestion - all the people now taking transit.
The Werewolf (@thewerewolf.bsky.social) reply parent
True, but in many cases, it's difficult to fix. It's not even entirely an issue of "car-designed" cities. Buses by definition, have fixed routes and many stops. Even if we got rid of all the cars, you'd still have all the stops and the fixed routes. And then there's the "last kilometer" problem.
The Werewolf (@thewerewolf.bsky.social) reply parent
