Was struggling to start some CAD modeling for a thing last night and I found an actual text tutorial for what I needed and got it done in like 30 mins after that. This is what we lost with the pivot to video.

the thing is if you have a six hour day for eight hours pay & full employment you now have time to enjoy walking your dog. to cook yourself something at leisure. to enjoy taking care of your dwelling. the answer isn't magic robots. it's unions, it's workers getting the means of production

Trigger warning. “In crashes, SUVs are more likely to strike vital organs in the core of adults’ bodies & heads of children. Hitting pedestrians above their center of gravity means they’re more likely to be knocked forward & down and then be driven over.” Plus more likely to hit in the 1st place.

Yes it's a big "outside of" because it's why you would vocally say your preferences, if you were logically understanding that people will vote how they say they will vote, which you seem to think they don't.
Aoḋán Ó Conġaile (@tinydonkey.bsky.social) reply parent
Why would people lie?! What do they gain by saying they won't vote for him and then secretly voting for him anyway? What are you talking about?
Aoḋán Ó Conġaile (@tinydonkey.bsky.social) reply parent
Also, while a politician has a good reason to lie about what they will do i.e. getting into office, what possible benefit (outside of hoping to effect change in a campaign) does someone gain by saying "I won't vote for someone who is doing things I don't like". Why would they lie?
Aoḋán Ó Conġaile (@tinydonkey.bsky.social) reply parent
Yes, but before they are elected you don't know that they will keep that promise. You don't know they'll keep their promise, they don't know that you'll vote for them. It's not identical but it's more similar than you make out.
Aoḋán Ó Conġaile (@tinydonkey.bsky.social) reply parent
So why does a politician campaign? They say "I will do X if you vote for me". People then choose to vote for them or not based on what they've said. How is a voter, or bloc of voters saying "if you do X we won't vote for you" any different?
Aoḋán Ó Conġaile (@tinydonkey.bsky.social) reply parent

I think what annoys me about the phrase is that they don't use it to lead to a contradiction eg "England is bad, that being said, they did invent meat pies" it's just a pure linking statement "England was bad, that being said, let's get into the history of England and meat pies"

Feels a bit odd to write a piece warning of musicians being silenced for political reasons, without mentioning the UK's current and ongoing prosecution of Kneecap. Odder still when your example is a Russian soprano who's working happily for the Royal Opera House and merely been subject to criticism.

So the reason it's called a "cover version" is because it was a separate recording and release of a song that would "cover" a different part of the market. Pop vs blues, rock vs soul etc. It's linked to the way the American music industry was racially segregated. How about that?

To be fair, I've only seen hereditary and Midsommar of his, but I think there is more going on under the surface than "shit happens" in both of them. I don't think everyone has to love them but to say there's no point of view in them is imo incorrect. Barbarians, however, I'll grant the author that.
Aoḋán Ó Conġaile (@tinydonkey.bsky.social) reply parent
Ari Aster is a weird one as well. Hereditary is a film about grief tearing a family apart and Midsommar is a film about the horror of alienation and the pull of toxic relationships when you're vulnerable. "Stuff happens then the movie ends" could be said about any movie, even citizen Kane.
