Turns out setting up an immigration detention tent camp without legal authority in a protected swamp nature preserve with a dark sky designation, that had almost zero infrastructure, in the scorching hot Florida summer, during hurricane season, did not turn out well.

DeSantis was asked about Alligator Alcatraz being dismantled and said people are being deported quickly. They’re not. Most people have been transferred over to other detention facilities like Fort Bliss in Texas. Very strange to continue lying about something so easily disproven.

Could very well be, although that’s problematic on its own since Judge Williams has ordered materials to be taken out of the site due to its harmful environmental impact.

Initially a lot of people were being sent to Krome, but now most people I have been working with are being sent to Fort Bliss in Texas. I have also seen some people sent to the Glades County Detention Center.

Federal law “does not provide authority for state agencies to hold immigration detainees. And it certainly does not let them place detention in the hands of untrained, unsupervised private contractors who are not and cannot be deputized to perform immigration functions."

People should remember that aside from the depraved treatment against those detained there, well over $300 million in taxpayer dollars were disbursed through no-bid contracts to politically connected vendors at Alligator Alcatraz. This was complete financial malfeasance.

NEW: The 9th Circuit permits the Trump admin to terminate TPS for Honduras, Nicaragua, and Nepal for now. This population includes 50,000 people who have been here legally since 1998 and will now have to leave the US or risk deportation. Many have no path to permanent status.

Fiancée of someone currently detained in Alligator Alcatraz details how her loved one has been in there for nearly a month. Conditions are so bad that he tried to commit suicide, and he has fungus due to constant water intrusion into the tent where he is caged.
