Lucked out with perfect weather to watch the Hudson Valley Hot-Air Balloon Festival this weekend #Stunday #Colors #SensoryArt #WeekIforIconic #AlphabetChallenge #BestAbstract #AbstractAug #smArtist #ColorADay #OrangeSun #SundayYellow #EastCoastKin #Photography #HotAirBalloon #BalloonFestHV

As a colorful hot air balloon is blown up, the rope makes an indent to make it look the shape of a heart for a minute. The sky is blue with white clouds, there are many people on the grass and trees behind them.

https://www.cosm.org/entheon TOOL POSTER COLLECTION Loan of Rod Rohrs and the Reach Out and Beyond Gallery The progressive metal band TOOL released their fifth studio album, Fear Inoculum on August 30, 2019. Hailed by music reviewers and fans alike, the Song /empest won a Grammy for best metal performance. For their Fear Inoculum Tour, Tool's lead guitarist and art director, Adam Jones, planned a special limited edition silkscreen poster for each of the 104 concert dates from 2019-2022. Adam invited dozens of artists to be part of the series. The posters became instant collector's items and sometimes incited near riots at venues as they sold out. Collector Rod Rohrs traveled to each venue waiting in lines for hours and many times overnight so that he could get choice and unique posters signed by the band and doodled on by Adam Jones. Many of the posters were customized later with remarques by the original artists. We are grateful to display thirty-three posters loaned from the amazing collection of Rod Rohrs in the Visionary Vine stairwell gallery of Entheon.

https://www.cosm.org/entheon PAINTING Alex Grey, 1998, oil on linen A translucent artist from an elevated perspective is Painting a canvas, palette in one hand, the other holds a brush. The miracle of how consciousness moves the body-or, in this case, controls a paintbrush-is suggested by the glow in the brain, bones, muscles, circulatory and nervous systems, as well as the subtle energies of acupuncture meridians and points, chakras, and auric thoughtforms. A funnel of spiritual light swirls into the top of the head, bringing flames of vision, suffusing the brain with radiance. Spiritual or spectral figures surround and influence the painter. Renowned artists hovering above the artists head, Michelangelo, Blake, van Gogh, Frida Kahlo, Bosch, Tchelitchew, and Delville, observe and offer encouragement. A guardian angel behind the artist focuses the light of idealism on the artist's pineal gland, or third eye, a light-responsive endocrine gland deep in the brain that regulates the circadian rhythm by neurochemical secretions of melatonin. It is speculated that the pineal gland may also play a part in the regulation of the visionary imagination by secreting dimethytryptamine and related psychoactive compounds. Darker psychological forces in the artist's auric field are symbolized by a leering, grotesquely sexual thanatopic animal phantasm that represents the passions and fears driving our actions. Light as consciousness flows through the body of the artist, pouring forth from the colored chakras and orchestrating emotion, thought, intuition, devotion, will, and higher visions. The eyes of the artist guide the artist's hand, simultaneously beaming rays of perception and imagination toward the canvas.

Head from a Female Sphinx #BlueSkyArtShow theme #Shiny Carved from chlorite, a dark green stone, ca. 1876–1842 B.C.E. (see Alt text) #BrooklynMuseum #ColorADay #GreenSat #Colors #SensoryArt #WeekIforIconic #AlphabetChallenge #OnlyBeautifulThings #EastCoastKin #Photography

Small details sometimes provide crucial clues to understanding a sculpture. On this object, for example, the back of the wig extends horizontally instead of downward, indicating that the head originally belonged to a sphinx, a mythological creature with a human head and a lion’s body. Sphinxes represented the king’s ability to crush Egypt’s enemies. Although sphinxes were usually male, the heavy striated wig shown here only appears on representations of women. This statue’s inlaid eyes, probably of metal and colored stones, were pried out in antiquity, resulting in extensive damage. Repairs to the eyes, lips, and chin were apparently made in the eighteenth century. Depicting a queen or princess, this striking green head is one of the earliest representations of a female sphinx. Its size and powerful presence contrast with its smooth and delicate features. The face and neck, once attached to a sphinx’s reclining body, reveal evidence of ancient damage and more modern repairs. The empty eyes originally held stone inlays. The head’s journey to Brooklyn is a storied tale, extending many miles and millennia. It was first described in 1764 CE in one of the earliest treatises on ancient art. The text notes that the “sublime” head was part of Cardinal Alessandro Albani’s antiquities collection in Rome. How it came to Italy remains a mystery. The Romans might have brought it in the first century CE, possibly installing it in Emperor Hadrian’s villa. In 1772, the Marquess of Lansdowne purchased the head; the family kept it until a 1930 estate sale. For 20 years, its location was unknown. In 1955, a Sotheby’s employee noticed the piece outside an Essex shop and purchased it on a whim. He sold the head for a mere 500 pounds, claiming he was bamboozled by his boss. The next thing he knew, Sotheby’s had sold it to the Brooklyn Museum, where it continues to awe and inspire. https://www.brooklynmuseum.org/objects/3623

Trim Castle, built in 1172 When we were young we walked on top of its curtain wall - scary but fun! #Colors #SensoryArt #Towers #PalacesAndGardens #UrbanGaze #WeekIforIconic #AlphabetChallenge #AdoorableThursday #Ireland #EastCoastKin #Photography #LandscapePhotography

Trim Castle, Ireland, at night with white, purple and green lights shining on it. The sky is black. The movie Braveheart was filmed here. “Trim Castle was built in 1172, shortly after the arrival of the Anglo-Normans in Ireland. King Henry II granted his baron Hugh de Lacy the Kingdom of Meath, along with custody of Dublin. The King feared that another of his barons Richard de Clare (also known as Strongbow) might set up a rival Anglo-Norman kingdom in Ireland, and gave de Lacy Meath as a counterbalance to Strongbow's powerbase in the south of Leinster.” https://www.meath.ie/discover/heritage/heritage-sites/trim-castle “The castle is the largest Anglo-Norman fortification in Ireland. Hugh de Lacy and his successors took 30 years to build it. The central fortification is a monumental three-story keep. This massive 20-sided tower, which is cruciform in shape, was all but impregnable in its day. It was protected by a ditch, curtain wall and water-filled moat. The castle is often called King John’s Castle although when he visited the town he preferred to stay in his tent on the other side of the river. Richard II visited Trim in 1399 and left Prince Hal later Henry V as a prisoner in the castle.” https://heritageireland.ie/places-to-visit/trim-castle/

From a palace to a garden #Towers #PalacesAndGardens Cleopatra’s Needle The Obelisk was created roughly 3,500 years ago in Egypt and was dedicated in Central Park in 1881 #WeekIforIconic #AlphabetChallenge #UrbanGaze #EastCoastKin #Photography #NYCPhotography

The Obelisk was created around 1425 BCE in Heliopolis, Egypt, an area north of modern-day Cairo. Central Park is the third location for this 220-ton monolith, a single piece of stone carved out of granite at the quarries of Aswan, a major source of stone for Egyptian antiquities. It was one of two obelisks commissioned by Pharaoh Thutmose III for the Temple of the Sun in Heliopolis, near modern-day Cairo. Scholars believe that obelisks represented eternity and immortality, and their long, tapering form functioned to connect the heavens and the earth. Their pinnacles were typically covered in gold to reflect the sunlight. When the Romans discovered the two obelisks in 12 BCE, both had toppled and were lying partially buried in the sand. The Romans transported the obelisks to Alexandria and installed them at an entrance to a temple dedicated to Julius Caesar. The temple had been built by Cleopatra, which is one theory of how they came to be called “Cleopatra’s Needles,” a name that still endures. The Romans created the bronze crabs as supports for the damaged obelisks. In Roman mythology, crabs are associated with Apollo, the sun god, thus continuing the solar connection. In the 1870s, the Egyptian government gave one obelisk to England, and the second obelisk was gifted to the United States by the Khedive Ismail Pasha in commemoration of the opening of the Suez Canal. The removal of the Obelisk and its transportation to New York took over a year, and was a significant feat of logistics, diplomacy, and engineering. It was installed in Central Park in January 1881. https://www.centralparknyc.org/locations/obelisk#:~:text=Standing%20between%20the%20Great%20Lawn,oldest%20outdoor%20monument%20in%20NYC.&text=In%20the%201870s%2C%20the%20Egyptian,opening%20of%20the%20Suez%20Canal.

Perhaps Tough Mudder’s most controversial obstacle, this simple structure remains largely unchanged from its inception and earliest days on course. Over the years, mud, trenches, rows of hay and even a grandstand have been added to enhance the spectacle. Troll of the North It’s a #Mystery why he didn’t notice the sun rising (see alt text) #Skyline #BlueSkyArtShow #SensoryArt #EastCoastKin #Photography #ClassicMono #Monochrome #BnW #BlackAndWhitePhotography #Iceland #RingRoad #Photography #NaturePhotography #LandscapePhotography

“Folklore of Hvítserkur It should come as no surprise that Hvítserkur is often referred to as a troll—most distinctive Icelandic rocks are. Folklore says that Hvítserkur was originally a troll from the peninsula, determined to rip the bells down from Þingeyraklaustur convent; trolls, unlike elves, are said to be terrified of Christianity. The beast was so enraged and persistent that it did not notice the rising sun, and was instantly petrified for eternity in its rays. In hindsight, like most of Iceland’s folktales, it seems this one had a Christian message not so subtly weaved into it. It is likely that the story was an allusion to the people’s stoic resistance to the Christianisation of Iceland, implying those who held onto the view were as stubborn, stupid, violent and wicked as trolls, and perhaps on their way to a similar fate. Iceland converted to Christianity in 1000 AD under the threat of invasion from Norway, and the transition was not easy; those who practised the religion of the Old Norse Gods were ostracised and punished for the millennium that followed.” https://guidetoiceland.is/travel-iceland/drive/hvitserkur

People are on the boardwalk checking out the waves caused by Hurricane Erin at Jones Beach, NY. The sun just set and the sky is yellow, orange and red.

It’s always beautiful at Bow Bridge Central Park, NY #Seasons #PalacesAndGardens #HumansOfBluesky #StreetPhotography #UrbanGaze #EastCoastKin #ColorADay #YellowThu #smArtist #Architecture #Photography #NYCPhotography

Mobile photo of a person sitting on a rock drawing, looking toward Bow Bridge, another person is laying on the rock. “Because of its low-lying and graceful curve that resembles the bow of an archer or violinist, it’s widely considered a masterpiece of Victorian-era design. Created as one of the major entrances to the Ramble, and a connection to a path toward Bethesda Terrace, it’s a prominent spot that offers expansive views of the Lake and surrounding landscapes. It’s one of the most photographed Park features and one of the most romantic, serving as the site of numerous wedding proposals.” https://www.centralparknyc.org/locations/bow-bridge Bow bridge with the fall colored trees reflecting on the still water.

I'm lucky that I get to see these #Faces at work #AMNH #AbstractAug #smArtist #EastCoastKin

It's in the Margaret Mead Hall of Pacific Peoples. This site says it is not smiling but in a war scream - I did not know this, guess it is not a happy face lol. https://www.dailyartmagazine.com/ancestor-mask-chambri-people/ This artifact is identified as a Late Classic Remojadas style ceramic head from Veracruz, Mexico, dating back to approximately 600-800 AD. It is part of the Mesoamerican collection exhibited at the American Museum of Natural History in Manhattan, New York City
