Iām curious what the status is with the Summit turn back track/yard/switch/retaining wall project. That wall is a few deep freezes from crumbling and lengthening those platforms in a project to connect them to the parking deck would help immensely.

There's proof of Alon's concept in Britain. Fast trains (what the Brits call their expresses) on the East Coast and West Coast main lines average ~90mph-plus. That's ~20% faster than the Acela between NYC-DC, despite having a equal/lower top speeds. Average speed matters as much as top speed.

You don't even really need to transfer the JFK Airtrain to the MTA (though the reason for doing so is "the Port Authority is inept"). You just need to rationalize the fare + transfer policies. Nolan's two infill stations are some real rail deserts.

UPS61, operating with a 747-8F, had a nasty landing at TPE during Typhoon Podul. Sure looks like it was hit with some nasty wind gusts (on this third landing attempt) and an engine made contact with the runway. They taxied to the ramp after this.

I like where this is going! Transit advocates should work together to get them to commit to automation. Itāll lead to shorter platforms, making it much more fundable. The MTAās fiscal situation is iffy and projects have been canceled and truncated before because of high costs.

The MTA's weekly capital construction newsletter just noted that the IBX stations will be the first new rail stations added in Brooklyn since the G was built in the 1930s. I know this is true, but it's so glaring to see it in print like that. The G has been in full service for 88 years.

Raleigh increased bus service from every 30 min to every 15 min on its route serving Glenwood Ave. Ridership then doubled in the year that followed. Over last year, cityās high-frequency routes have had 89% ridership growth. People will ride when you give them service that they can rely on!

One of the issues is you canāt get on the Turnpike to the tunnel going east after 14B. The opportunity to divert local traffic to the highway over downtown aināt there. Marin also needs to be reimagined to not be just a feeder road into the tunnel.

The light rail has weekend construction so the 16 actually worked out better. Except Jersey City needs to clearly designate stops. We blew through Monitor and the Liberty State Park stop heading to JSQ thereās nothing indicating a stop. And traffic downtown is a mess. We need bus lanes.
