yes, i believe that black men routinely hang themselves from trees in mississippi. surely there is no other likely explanation for his body being found there that has, say, long historical roots. i do not have proof but let’s just say this claim should be held to a higher evidentiary standard.

i'm not saying the answer should have been yes. i'm saying a reflexive "no of course not" that question primes us towards subservience *and* subtly reinforces the possibility that some people *should* be saying "yes".
allison steele, organic human person (@trulyaliem.bsky.social)
it's worth noting, amidst all the other notes of "conservatives see hypocrisy as hierarchy and virtue" and accurate labels of fascism, that those of us who oppose that kind of hierarchy were primed to avoid claiming it. what's your reaction to "oh, you think you're better than me?"
Prisonculture (@prisonculture.bsky.social) reposted
I don't think pointing out the fascists' 'hypocrisy' is a good use of time. It's not hypocrisy, it's hierarchy. They actually do believe that they have the right and obligation to dominate you because they are superior to you. They are using their power not being hypocritical.

I'm gonna staple this onto all y'all mfs heads. It is not hopeless, we have not lost, the entire intent of the actions of the Trump Administration is to seem stronger than they really are. The firmer that we, the people, stick with one another, the harder it will be for them to do anything.

normally i only have tv on while gaming for mmos. but i've half-watched a lot grinding levels in metaphor. it's an unfortunate intersection. the game is still gorgeous. phenomenal music. interesting characters. excellent craftsmanship. i'm still v invested! just not a fan of this much grindiness.
allison steele, organic human person (@trulyaliem.bsky.social) reply parent
the time mechanic is great. the action economy creates interesting pressures that i also like. but it means that you can't always wait until you get to a boss, learn that you need some more levels, then grind them all out easily. (not all bosses are in respawning dungeons!) so i grind a lot.
allison steele, organic human person (@trulyaliem.bsky.social) reply parent
it means that if you want to grind to outlevel what's coming up, you need to do it legitimately ahead of time. you need to guess what level you'll need, then run through the same dungeon many times to grind out those levels. it gets tedious.
allison steele, organic human person (@trulyaliem.bsky.social) reply parent
the turn-based combat is great, no notes, but when you're faced with enemies significantly lower level than you, you can skip the fight via arpg (real-time) combat. since mp replenishment is so costly, this is very important. also the little guys respawn. combining these? here is the minus in a-.
allison steele, organic human person (@trulyaliem.bsky.social) reply parent
a key mechanic in the game is time. you can take one action during the day and one at night. and the story gives you deadlines to get things done. there are many mechanical twists, but a big one is dungeons. going to a dungeon takes all day. both actions. however much time you spend in there.
allison steele, organic human person (@trulyaliem.bsky.social)
sometimes several good mechanics that are both elegant and fun combine into an experience that's... not great. i'm probably like halfway through metaphor refantazio and the last time i loved a turn-based rpg this much was crystal project (which i rated a solid a). so far metaphor is an a-. why?

allison steele, organic human person (@trulyaliem.bsky.social) reply parent
"ok what should I do instead?" you have options! if you really want the two ideas to be conceptually linked, you can use a semicolon instead. just swap punctuation marks and you're fine. or you can just split into two sentences. that lets you use a period or exclamation point to add color, too.
allison steele, organic human person (@trulyaliem.bsky.social) reply parent
"what's a comma splice, allison?" i'm glad you asked, hypothetical interlocutor! a comma splice is a form of run-on sentence that uses a comma to join two clauses together when both could be independent grammatically correct sentences. like "follow me, i know the way."
