My state's Medicaid works this way: three contracted managed care organizations. Clients approved for benefits must choose one. In my state, since 2017, everybody who is approved for Medicaid must enroll with one of three managed care plans. The current choices are Molina Healthcare, Nebraska Total Care (property of Centene), or United Healthcare. I don't even work directly with eligibility or claims and I find it repugnant.
You're right that Original Medicare will be eroded on an accelerated schedule, and then it'll be corpo-coverage all the way down. Leadership in my division is just staring, deer-eyed, waiting for the blast waves to hit Medicaid, too.
People are being coaxed en masse into Medicare Advantage plans. In my work, I've clocked a wild increase since early 2024 – which means the buildup was already well underway. The bulk of these that we deal with are carried by Death Stars like Aetna, Humana, and United Healthcare – eager deniers all.
