The only editions of D&D I bother with are 2 and 4 (yes I like 4e) but I'd rather play C7's Soulbound system or Modiphius's Conan if I'm playing a game built just for fantasy. The only knock I have for cypher fantasy is I get complaints about it not having D&D style permanent magic items to collect.
I wish that were so, but there are so many trapped in the walls of the D&D garden unwilling to step beyond them into the wider world of better games.

We really don't know a lot about how Hiltshire is doing since Ryan took the crown of the... Kingdom? City State? It's actually kinda ambiguous how large Hiltshire is.
Is any number above 6 really needed? Straight pluses to die rolls are so exceedingly rare in cypher that you're not succeeding a roll unless you can lower the difficulty to 6 or lower with assets and effort and so forth anyway.

The fix was not retroactive. All the notifications from the 3 days the system was down are just lost to the void. Notifications are mostly back up, it's hard to tell right now if the ongoing protest screwing with the server is causing some to still fail or if the system just isn't 100%
The general reason I find people aren't fond of cypher for dungeon fantasy is that collecting better gear is a large part of that dungeon fantasy and cyphers and artifacts in the cypher system are inherently impermanent which just doesn't mesh with the expected experience of dungeon fantasy games.
The long and short of it is sometime Friday last week notifications stopped working. It took them until some time mid afternoon today before it finally started working again. That 3 days of a basic site function not working was the last straw for a lot of people.

I genuinely feel like if they wanted to work with the right folks to respectfully revise Al Qadim to really showcase Persian mythology and storytelling it would be very enjoyable. I do get that there are still a lot of ways it could go wrong trying to do so though and WotC doesn't like risky things.

You have remarkable artistic talent and great storytelling but I'm going to be honest, Sandman seems like an odd choice to compare your art style to. Besides some of the most enjoyed comics on history are comedies. Personally I consider your work already on par with the likes of Berkeley Breathed.

This has turned into a bit of a rant, but honestly if MCG can change or improve their system in any of these areas, I'm all for it and can't wait to see where they're going with it.
Vehicles are also an area cypher never feels like it works well. Try making a battletech or similar game in cypher especially dealing with different kinds of weapons or equiplent and characters upgrading components of vehicles or changing entirely, the rules as written don't handle this really.
Gear based characters often fail to work well in the system too, characters like iron man that change from one suit to another and completely change their abilities in doing so don't work in cypher. It doesn't allow for those kinds of flexible characters especially not along side non gear characters
Getting a bit long here but on the subject gear is another failing of the system. Players often want better permanent gear but artifacts are rarely permanent and there's not a lot of design space between cyphers and artifacts for permanent gear that does stuff to give characters new options
The number one issue tends to be the cyphers themselves. They often feel forced into the setting because the system is built around them. It's in the name. Justifying both the cyphers and arbitrary reasons why there's a limit on how many you can have at a time rarely fits seamlessly in most settings
Cypher is solid for settings that are built around its peculiar quirks such as the cyphers themselves or how it handles artifacts and other elements. Numenera works great, ther things often don't adapt to the setting as smoothly. I've had a lot of players that have had issues when I've run it
I've been around cypher system since the first edition of Numenera and have honestly had a long history of critiquing it (just don't tell the cypher unlimited discord about that, they don't seem to like criticism of the system there). There are many places the system could use improvement.

Nier Replicant didn't really grab me but Nier Automata is easily one of my top 3 games of all time. I really didn't get Automata at first when I got to the 1st ending and even playing through the second part of the story after the 1st ending was not that impressive. After the 2nd ending though....
Some tabletop RPGs are much better about that than D&D, others are frankly much worse. It's interesting to me that other games like Palworld have managed to do a much better job of letting players interact with the monsters and do more with them than Pokemon has ever dared to attempt.
The games make them necessary as they roadblock progress if you don't sacrifice one of the often more valuable attacks of your team for them so players only get to experience them in a negative way from their perspective. They've no value to the story in the game beyond that of a burdensome key

It's never been explained why the barbarians were at war with King Hilton and Hiltshire. We do know that when Hilton first found the hilt of Baltad's blade he used it for destruction and that he used its power to found Hiltshire so he could rule. It's not a stretch to say he wasn't the best person.

It was revealed at one point that the "gods" are liches though I'm still not sure how some of them like Kargob, Bograk, or Argok got the souls to form as liches to begin with. One assumes they work on the same rules as other liches we've seen where they are a mix of the souls they're made from.

I've always wondered if we'd ever see a comic showing how Stabastian ended up lodged in the demon king's side. Whatever fight happens between the comic now just titled "Demon King Origins" and comic CCL "Turning of the Tide" has always felt like an odd gap
I love seeing your comics, but don't push yourself to commit to a pace or even a pattern. You've done well doing the stories you want in your own time so far. I would honestly love to see you go back and fill in some holes in the earlier stories though if you get the notion to do so.
I guess I'm in a minority here and won't win a lot of points for saying this but I kinda liked the shocking reality of Choplet's sudden end and hoped it'd stick. Not everyone that tries to be a hero succeeds, just look at the adventures before choplet challenged the ogre.
It's honestly the little details like that which I love most about this series.

I think the most common criticism I've gotten over the years running cypher system is the cyphers themselves. They can often feel very forced into the game (predation being the most common setting I hear this about) rather than the mechanics of the system and the setting supporting one another 1/?
The problem with most of the dice alternatives out there including all of the ones in this article save the pencils which are just dice with a different form factor is the inability to simultaneously roll multiple dice. Imagine trying to roll 4d6 with any of these.
