Ah... I know of the book. I read a summary of it. I think most of the myths in it were already busted for me by a lit. review (ie: nicotine eases stress? It only relieves the stress it CAUSED by the addictive nature of the substance). Anyways, feeling reasonably good about this round of kicking it.

Another issue that'll arise is the mass exit from education for a generation of students, as it's no longer a clear path to some level of economic security (read: loss of tuition dollars closing institutions, local governments cutting funding, and alumni ending donations). This is not good.
Second order effects, of course, will be a slimming down of the entire workforce as pipelines for talent are eliminated. Finding a senior software developer will be harder, as junior developers aren't given that first learning opportunity.
In any event, it looks ever more apparent that several rungs of the career ladder have been sawed off and we as a society have been left with dust.
Supports aren't there for it (like those cut programs) and if there isn't a core business need, going to an earlier stage of a person's learning journey doesn't fix the issue.
Thing is, in my home province student job programs have been cut for years (STEP, etcetera) and if a team isn't going to hire entry-level... why would they hire an intern or work experience?

In any event, I have no advice. You've gotten to the end of this BlueSky thread & there's nothing. I haven't dated in close to ten years (I was busy!), so I got nothing to share on being a better man for significant others. But I do know one thing: it comes from within & with connection to others.
As for the sadness: we've built a world that incredibly anti-social & hostile to friendship. I don't know about you, but run the maths on basic survival (rent, commutes, elimination of third spaces), and how we've collectively chosen to shrink the worlds of individuals. that's a well-being crisis.
I learned a new word today. It's "mankeeping." Firstly, my mental image of this term was significant others keeping their man in a purse, much like they'd carry a small dog (think chihuahua). It was a very humorous image, which was soon replaced with a deep sadness: of what a world we live in.

The Canadian public healthcare system paid for my sleep study. It... didn't cover the $2,400 for the sleep apnea machine I'd need to get the first good night's sleep I'd get in over two decades of life, but, well, that's a project for another time. (There's always more work to be done!)
As a child, I needed ear tubes put in. Otherwise, I wouldn't be able to hear (or, would lose my hearing from fluid build up and so many, many ear infections). The Canadian public paid to make sure that I could hear the world: its music, its voices and its wonder.
On smoking quit attempt #54, during the quiet of pandemic, the Canadian public paid for off-brand chantix for this sorry citizen. It kept me off the cigarettes for more than a year and a half. (One or two (or ten) lapses later, I'm cigarette free.)
