I have all the time to do it so I do but finding the best time and how to navigate the store/parking lot is key. Early was good today! Slightly chaotic on the way in but absolutely no check out line. The lot was almost full and people were pouring in when I left so I’m glad I didn’t wait.
The parking lot is so full already and there’s a huge line 🫠 but we need some stuff so I am here! Ready to brave the crowd of very dedicated shoppers.
I haven’t been to Costco in weeks because the new one opened and our regular one is now closed to be converted to a business centre. It’s been so crazy just driving near the new Costco but today I decided to go first thing after dropping the girls at school.

Also if immunocompromised, elderly etc people are prioritized and more likely to be recommended a vaccine then they’ll make up a larger portion of the vaccinated group than unvaccinated. They’re vulnerable! More likely to die in general!
It’s such a big transition! Our school is k-8 but there’s a big change in how their schedules etc work at this age so it’s middle school-ish and it’s going to be a bumpy time for sure.
I didn’t buy my kids new shoes for school this year because they both had *several* pairs that still fit from the spring. We will replace if/when they outgrow or ruin them. I did order them each a new pair of crocs because those are inexplicably the shoes of choice for going to hockey? In the snow??
Oh man this sounds awful. And H vs E sounds a lot like Jules vs Abby in school organization. Today is their first day and I’m spending time today to set up a system to help A keep organized and on top of things as they come in🤞 Jules has never struggled with this stuff.

Our school sends out class assignments the weekend before school starts so I just got two emails that say “your child’s teacher is [name]…” with no way to tell which kid it’s for. Very helpful!
That was the standard at my uni. But my dorm was brand new and had drywall. So fancy! By the end of the year there were so many holes in marks all over the walls. The cinder blocks were classic for a reason.
And of course they no longer have 2 or 3 of the same bottle with interchangeable lids. We have to have a variety of styles with straws that look the same size but are of course slightly different.
Ours don’t but once I clear some out we will probably lose whatever is left immediately.
(They’re all ours just some were temporarily lost and then found or they wanted the squeeze style instead last year etc etc now I am drowning)

The water bottle situation in this house is out of control. I need to get it somewhat organized for school next week and then I need to ruthlessly cull the water bottles.

A key organizational rule in our house is Abby’s anything is always on the left and J’s is on the right. This is because Abby is left handed and J is right handed so it’s easy for everyone to remember. I don’t know how I would set up all our systems if they both used the same hand.
I’m in an fb group for buying/selling hockey equipment specifically for our hockey association and just saw a post describing the hockey pants as “girl worn.” lol ok. Glad to hear only a girl has sweat in these, I guess.

We’ve had a very dry summer but while we were away this weekend it rained a lot and the clematis took over my morning coffee spot.
(They do it this way, honestly, because it’s cheaper for the health department than shipping all the vaccines to offices and paying doctors to administer them but I’m glad it works for everyone)
We have to do that for anything they get before school age (so most of them, really) but then in grade 7 they come and do all the kids HPV, hepb, and meningococcal vaccines. Literally just had to click through an email to give consent.
I’m so glad this is one offered by public health through school vaccinations here. I hope the convenience (don’t even need to make an appointment!) means most kids are getting it.

They were down their top 2 pitchers! They weren’t a super strong team to begin with! Anyway turns out one of her teammates just learned to really pitch in the last couple weeks and that helped lead us to a couple wins and a 6am Sunday wake up.
We did a theme park day Friday and the CNE yesterday and I am absolutely wiped this morning. I knew when I made the plans that Abigail had a softball tournament over the weekend but I admit I was really counting on them not doing well enough to make it to the second day.
This is all correct except I often forget weight/height in metric because we use imperial often, metric only for official documents. My dad was an adult when Canada switched so he (and most of my teachers!) didn’t use metric in daily life, really. I assume younger generations will use metric more?
I do wonder what other teams think when they hear us all cheering for Cheese.
I have so many questions and my kid is just like “🤷🏻♀️ she said she wanted to be called Cheese.”
All the teammates and parents and coaches call her Cheese. They write it on the line up. Her own dad now refers to his precious baby as Cheese.
Jules has a friend whose nickname is Cheese and I asked Jules where it came from (not similar to her first or last names in any way) assuming there was a story but actually this girl just told their team to call her Cheese and they said ok the end.
For track and field day we got one or two paper cups of orange drink from McDonald’s 💀

I cut my clematis waaay back last fall and it was a little slow to get going this summer. I thought I had maybe killed it or cut so much it wouldn’t explode like it has the past few years but, nope. It’s as out of control as ever.
Abby wants one for this year and so I bought it and she’s been practicing the combination and taught it to Jules so hopefully her sister can rescue her if needed.
My girls’ school has lockers in most halls instead of just coat hooks (it was built as a K-8 and is now 2-8 so I don’t know WHY the lockers) but locks are optional. Abby’s bff got one last year and then had to get it cut off the same day because she couldn’t remember the code 🫠

The ad I saw for an advent calendar was full of pressure to buy asap because last year it sold out in 11 days and I guess I’ll just have to miss out, then. I’m not ready.

Next week a new Costco is opening up closer to our house than our current Costco. The existing Costco is apparently being turned into a Costco business centre. I’m curious to see what they have that is useful for us because they open at 7am??! I wish regular Costco had those hours.
I love it! We have another neighbour with a very naughty pug named Walter who is always escaping so I’m used to hearing that named yelled at a dog more than a little boy 😂

There is now a Costco gas station open between my house and my kids’ school. Big day. (The actual store opens in a few weeks)
Abby turned on a random baseball game (the jays aren’t even playing today!) and it was the 8th inning, tied 3-3, so I told her she could watch the last 2 innings. It’s now 11-11 and still the 8th inning. This game is never going to end.
J’s softball coach from last year said she’s improved 300% from last year and he’s looking forward to having her on his team next year. Then a teammate’s dad said she’s playing with “so much confidence and swagger” this season 🥰
People on our community fb group simultaneously complaining that too many roads are closed/under construction and that certain other road projects haven’t been started yet. 🫠

Dropped off a trunk load of donations that have been sitting and waiting in the house for way too long. All gone! So much space is free again!

My friend’s 4 kids are very busy with travel sports and they rely on carpooling with classmates/teammates a lot. It’s absolutely impossible to drive them all without help.
It’s been too hot to want to cook this week but the latest What to Cook wrap recipe was perfect and tonight’s dinner is in the crockpot.
Anything with skin usually has a bit of stubble and it’s FINE I’m cutting the skin off anyway but I don’t love it.
I love getting meat from our farm share but when the pork still has hair I question my choices a little 😩
Went in, got myself a latte and Italian soda for the girls, paid yesterday’s tab, left a big tip, and feel like I have accomplished A Task even though I have absolutely not. Everyone wins!
I definitely didn’t see people walking around with water bottles all day long until uni.
When we had track and field days we got through with a couple paper cups of McDonald’s orange drink.
64oz is the size the girls use for softball and we need 2 plus gatorades to get through a tournament when it’s hot. I was definitely not so well hydrated as a kid!
Definitely, yes. And just giant water bottles in general for such tiny kids.
I suspect the kids just didn’t tap properly idk but now I have to go back and get another latte tomorrow and settle my bill, I guess!
Sent the girls to get me a latte and a treat for themselves and apparently my debit card didn’t work. The café owner kept the bill and just said “you’re in here all the time. Your mom can pay next time she’s in.”
Even kids who have moms might be dropped off by grandparents or dads or caregivers. I can easily think of half a dozen friends I grew up with who had a dead or absent parent. How are the people who make these signs so clueless?!
Making a mental note to explicitly explain this to my children the next time we fly.
I’ve missed connections because of delays or whatever and that’s stressful and unpleasant enough. I will not be choosing to do that to myself.

The other big line item was the cost of servers. We were able to cut the price a little by having dinner served family style instead of individually plated, so we didn’t need as many servers. A buffet would have cut it further.
We were married too long ago for actual numbers to be relevant but we did a tent in my parents’ yard and the cost of renting the tent, tables, chairs, dishes, linens etc was A Lot. Cheaper than having it at the local golf course but still more than I would have guessed before we started planning.
I used to have a coworker who more than once was a day late returning from her vacation because she missed her flight home???? Not a connection. Just straight up got there too late. Multiple times in the 5ish years we worked together. I wonder what she’s up to these days.
