I was thinking of a simple one, people used to immigrate to America because we were often better at the simple rule of law without corruption than many other places, because people didn’t openly take bribes when in positions of power. And bribe-taking was often treated as a scandal to be punished.
I was trying to think of how we explain to young people all the social norms or standards that the MAGA fascists are breaking. What’s one previously-common practice or ethical rule you’d explain to someone who’s <25, and too young to recall a time when media hadn’t fully normalized this malfeasance?

Trump is right: There’s a crime wave in this country. It’s based in the White House. Trump pardoned people who beat up cops. In the last few days, judges found he illegally took money from Harvard, illegally used the Alien Enemies Act to impose tariffs, and illegally sent troops into Los Angeles.
Their “frustration” is irrelevant. Who cares? They know RFK Jr is dangerous, unfit, & is going to hurt a lot of people. But their fear of retribution from Trump is the deciding factor in all their inaction. They put their political survival over the lives and health of Americans.
