Lived thru several shutdowns in my 35+ as a Fed but 2019 was the worst. Retired now so watching from the sidelines and this one looks worse than that one😒 Has any other president dealt with two shutdowns while their party controls House and Senate?

Lived in Morocco this century. Only Moroccans who knew I was Jewish were other Jews. To Muslim friends, shop keepers & colleagues I was American (= Christian). Since they had NO INTEREST in Christianity never asked a single question but strangers would ask me about converting all the time.

They also ignore the shared society movement in Israel-Palestine led by groups like @standing-together.bsky.social My congregation's Israel trips included protesting the govt. If the pro-Pali crowd really cared they would let the people most impacted lead & stop putting obstacles in the way🙏🏻
Whenever I tell a ww acquaintance (too hard to be friends right now cuz I'm ✡️) that I'm sending postcards & making calls they thank me. That's polite, but my reply is that should be talking to their families/parents about voting and not me🤦🏻

My cousin in NYC went to NJ before it was approved in NY State. I'm in DC and the Minute Clinic inside CVS gives the shots to people under 65 with an underlying condition. They have a separate website from the pharmacy to make an appointment.

When I lived in Morocco visited a grade school w students w special needs. Took them until early 2000s to figure out how to build a ramp so the kids didn't have steps as a barrier to education.🤦🏻 My Western lens thought it was a simple solution, but they were ok w those kids not learning.
Close to, but under 65 & went to Minute Clinic, too. Vax covered by insurance & only took a few days to get an opening. Best part was all of the other people signed up were UNDER 30 & some in masks (like me)🥳 Gives me hope that some young adults are learning critical thinking skills!

Scooter traffic is way down. Bikes in the bike share docking stations and food deliveries to my condo are way down too.
Sometimes we need to revisit who are our people💗 My therapist says we have different friends for different reasons. Right now my reasons are wanting to be around people who understand that the threat to me as a Jew (+Black & Brown communities) is real especially since I'm in DC.

Not hard! My queer Black male yoga teacher held space for us having all the feelings. Immigrant (as a child) Black Jewish man hosting a pre-Rosh Hashana lunch Zoom did the same. Both were clear that they despised what he stood for, but could acknowledge that a life was taken in a terrible way.

When I lived out west I had friend originally from Boston who is Cohen. He'd get calls to go to even smaller towns for a minyan from time to time.
