Another filk-adjacent thing Loncon did was put together a symphony orchestra to play #scifi music, including the Star Wars theme, Star Trek theme, and many more. It was so beautiful! #SciFiChat Lots of filkers in the audience.
There was a filk rock opera performed at Loncon (the World Science Fiction Convention in London (maybe a half-decade ago). It was so well attended the con found an overflow room and set up remote viewing right before it started. #SciFiChat

Ohio Valley Filk Fest hosts the Pegasus Awards - essentially the Hugo awards of filk. Anyone who filks or listens to filk can nominate and vote. Here is the link to that "about" page: [www.ovff.org/pegasus/abou...](www.ovff.org/pegasus/abou...) That website also lists past winners and nominees.
Another misunderstanding is the idea that filk is intentionally flavored more like folk music than other music genres. I think that comes from the fact that it's hard for a single musican, with or without a guitar, to sound like, say, a rock or jazz band. #SciFiChat
While parodies and mashups are very welcome and respected in filk, filk is just as much about original songs. Maybe moreso. FilkOntario has an Iron Penguin contest every year, where filkers are challenged to write a song using a short list of words (always includintg the word penguin). #SciFiChat
Some circles are sing-along oriented, some are less so. And since Covid, there are zoom song circles every month, and a regular zoom filk con, called Festival of the Living Rooms, which is currently happening four times a year. Including this weekend. #SciFiChat
So, filk includes songs that are of interest to the community of speculative fiction fans. Some common categories are space songs, science songs, songs about books and movies, songs about fandom, and songs about cats. #SciFiChat
Pete Seeger said "folk music is the songs folk sing". While you will hear different variants from different filkers, it is generally accepted that filk music is the songs that filkers sing. Filkers are the people in the fannish community who get together at cons and elsewhere to sing. #SciFiChat

"God" curse words relate to the Deity or Deities, of course, and are probably underused in #scifi since so many books ignore relligion altogether. #SciFiChat
Cuss words work best when they flow naturally out of the culture or details of the alien species, I think. But since evey generation comes up with their own slang, including swears, I think it's generally good to include some kind of emphatic exclamations. #SciFiChat
And of course, Robin Williams gifted us with Frick, Frack and Feldercatb via Mork and Mindy. Those are much better known. I knew a guy in college whose nickname was Frack, because his last name ended in that syllable. I never heard what he thought of the show, though. #SciFiChat
