re: civility and "official channels" of resistance, I will add to the ongoing excellent commentary: campus activists typically only adopted disruptive tactics after their efforts to go through "official channels" were met with disingenuous procedural loophole rejections or explicit repression.

I want our young people to know they have options, places to put their energy if they want to change the world. And I want the Democrats to stop seeming like such a dead end shit show
We play such a huge role in the psychosocial conditions of children and young adults. What we say and do has impact. The habits we teach them have impact. I just want those of us who are pessimistic to remember that negativity impacts young folks in a particular and damaging way.
I want those of us who are getting into our middle-aged years and beyond to understand that as cynical and sad as we might feel, we have a responsibility to ensure that those who come after us have the energy to go on, to be creative in their problem-solving, to believe change is possible.
I want our young people to know that there is a path forward, that a better world is possible. I don't want them to give up, to become cynical. They deserve to be young and full of optimism. They are owed a world that supports and sustains optimism.
Obviously anecdotal but I wonder if this is a common phenomenon. I also wonder if we are contributing to the loss of accents 🤔😆 Anyways, zero shade if your family went up there and it worked out 👍🏾

It’s a very hard thing to read, but I recommend people read “I Saw Death Coming” by Kidada E. Williams for an in-depth exploration of first-hand accounts from people who suffered from attacks like those propagated by the Klan here in the US, to have a full understanding of how disrespectful this is.
