I’m highly enjoying some of the theories on the disappearance of the POTUS. I can see now why this administration ran so fast and broke so much. He didn’t have much time. OR his handlers have stepped in to reduce the media to calm the protesting of the dismantling of democracy…
1-day project completed. This use a Cinnamoroll amigurumi, made from this pattern: www.cutiepiecrochet.com/post/cinnamo... For bigger stuffies, I used a bulky yarn (4) with a 7.00 mm hook. (Also uses more poly fill). This was a birthday gift for one of my 4 step kids.
I assume this noun verb distinction might apply to WC (wash closet) (the British term for Restroom).
Could rest be considered a noun? I think your latter theory is correct (the 'ing') seems to be the prime determinant of splitting or unifying a word.
11/n I highly encourage diversifying both personal experience and researching scientific literature… We will get a better handle of truth that way, if the truth is important to you.
10/n What we can learn? 1) We all have our own INDIVIDUAL internalized statistics for everything (shown in our feelings and biases) 2) As we become EXPERTS in our fields, our individual statistics become much more accurate and reflect the true GROUP of POPULATION statistic.
9/n 3) opens our eyes to current systemic pressures that may lead to existing stereotypes… 4) display diverse views and experiences… Which allows for researchers to understand what might exist so that we can measure it.
8/n Movements like #BLM, #MeToo, #itgetsbetter, and even the current representation of the diversity of Asians in media (a personal interest of mine) helps to show that 1) stereotypes are not representative of all individuals, 2) destigmatizes and creates safe spaces to divulge experiences…
7/n I understand, I may have a bias towards the truth, and as a quant person, I know how frustrating it is to analyze mixed data, but it’s important.
6/n we need diversity in our data collection in order to measure correctly. We need mixed measures (quantitative and qualitative) so that we can get true measures, not just what we assume to be true. And in we need to destigmatize many things for people to feel comfortable to answer honestly…
Leading to incorrect stats. But of course the opposite is true too! Just because your friend group is primarily a certain demographic, it doesn’t minimize the overall findings (I see this in the US gov’t, minimizing labour statistics, and attacking trans rights and firing scientists and analysts)…
6/n but my circle is NOT the general population. Now there are always issues in statistics collection: like, when being LGBTQ+ could cost you your job in the 90s, the likelihood of your reporting sexual diversity might decrease, then showing lower numbers. Or! It wasn’t even measured…
5/n For me, I surround myself with friends who all have the same experiences, and students who struggle with mental health issues always divulge to me (because I’m safe). The prevalence rate of a mood of anxiety disorder is only ~25% in the general population. But it FEELS more like 75% to me.
4/n Here are some examples: In the 90s, the stats for homosexuality ran about 10%. Asexuality wasn’t even considered. A student noted that they were asexual, and because it wasn’t measured the prof denied it existed…
3/n and when I became an adult, I noticed that other adults would DENY actual statistics because it conflicted with their experience! We see this now (in the US). TLDR: we shouldn’t minimize a person’s experience because it doesn’t fit the norm, and vise versa!
2/n One of the teaching foibles I noted when I was taking undergraduate courses was how some professors would minimize a student’s personal experience because it didn’t fit the average statistic…

Well, currently the bargaining broke down and now we await formal mediation. The union submitted a complaint to the labour board regarding the bad faith on the employers part (they wasted time and did not even read the proposals). Formal mediation begins next month but we expect very little.
Dalhousie University just locked out the professors at the beginning of the year, you know, when we are prepping for September courses to start. I wonder if the U of A will follow suit?

They really leaned hard into what I would consider pseudoscience (the use of science language in non science domains). But it’s so big here, we have Bible/Christian colleges all over our province that teach ONLY Christian Science and deny evolution. We have Bible camps all over the province

I live in a province where they have built a Creation museum in the same town as our Dinosaur museum (Drumheller) and the Creation Museum has one of the largest outdoor stages to show Passion (the play about Jesus) every year. One of my former Ed Psych students was cast as Jesus 2 years in a row.

Definitely makes one lose much faith in stocks. But thankfully, business analysts ignore micro trends, only day traders really care. And they’re really overestimating the buying power of the people who succumb to these ads.
A screenshot of the TLDR newsletter from WealthSimple. We may know that the American Eagle stock soared 33% after Sweeney’s ad, but foot traffic is down 4% then 9% over two weeks. Numbers don’t lie. :) the people who bought shares in AE after the ad might just be white supremacists. :)

I just heard that you can call people in the MAHA movement “Raw Milkers” much like “Flat Earthers”. Both deny science. Also, I heard “viral micro-dosing” as a way to advertise vaccines to the same crowd. Is reinventing pasteurization and inoculation considered a win?

I’ve been using the term GOP wrong. For some reason I conflated it with the office of the President (like any president). I had to google it (sorry, I’m Canadian). I had to think about it for a bit, but I really hope your statement comes true.
Diplomacy ties take decades to build. But it takes a post on Truth Social to tear down. :) I know a good diplomatic President will indeed start building those bridges. But the democratic process of the US makes it difficult to determine if the US will stay diplomatic (every 4 year).

I suspect that every accusation is a confession. I would thoroughly review every one of any subsequent papers that his cronies publish for errors and manipulation, request raw data, etc…I wouldn’t be surprised if his people would fake data.

And sometimes it irks me that a Professor of marketing that I’m collaborating with asked me for help with statistical analysis and their ignorance of the difference between coefficients of correlation vs determination (and which one determined effect size) made me question all his previous papers.

Calgary, you can search up the road on the index of the map and using the cell number (like in a spreadsheet) you can see where that road lies on the map.
Edmonton’s grid system is wonderful, you can pinpoint almost the exact location by address alone. The numbers at the beginning of the house number indicate Avenue or Street, and then you have the numbered street. The last digits determine which N/S/E/W side. With names of roads in Calgary

To me, finding an article verifying what I already know is validating. But I was a 90s kid and we valued reporters and journalists back then (when it was more peaceful and there was less fascism in North America).
Socialism was never dead. It was just unpopular in the US and across the right wing for a while. Talk to any Canadian, especially the ones who understand socialism and those who have multicultural roots, they can see a nuanced view. The term was vilified by the right, that’s all.
I would like him to be prosecuted for human rights abuses on the international stage.

Rewatching Mad Men…and while I’m appalled by the misogyny, the gender roles, the infidelity, but what I’m most offended by? Don Draper can afford a house, a wife and kids AND an apartment (in Manhattan) on one income. We have housing crisis, and the cheating husband has the real estate! 😮

I’ve had two friends who got shingles. One developed neuropathy and lost partial sight in one eye, and the other also had mild facial nerve damage from the shingles. I’m so much more worried about the nerve damage and can’t wait until I reach the age when my insurance will cover it. :)

Most of my academic peers did not accept Rushton’s findings, noting all the social confounds. But, I’m still unpacking the much milder patriarchy/white supremacism/american exceptionalism that I was indoctrinated with through western media. The culture in London was…concerning.
