the other red light on main street was put there for the post office traffic and only turned on m-f 6a-8p or so. But it's now 24 hours as well 😡 Got stopped by it last year at 1 am, literally zero cars anywhere on main street, not even parked cars.
I remember when Salmon got our first 24 hour red light (2nd total). Intersection of hwy 93 and 28. They ran radio spots and newspaper articles explaining how to "use" it....

Peace is easy here; I've never had anyone camped within a mile of us. Even as busy as it was last year. Most people are afraid to camp too far away from the edge; far fewer of us prefer being out in the middle of it. But I'll take it for sure, 99% less dust from people drag racing.

Camped at Alvord Playa this weekend. We've been here on Labor Day the last 6 years Last year, on Friday night, I counted 150 light clusters (camps) on the 32 square miles of the main dry lakebed. 100 is average Last night, about 15, if I tried real hard. It's *EMPTY* And it's the best weather

The technical leadership books I've seen are all geared towards more senior leaders like myself. Directors and CTOs. I want a book geared to the guy who accidentally fell into leadership, the one who was handed a disfunctional team and expected to work miracles. The one building a new team.
Most management books are absolute trash... Written by dudes who peaked on their highschool football field then got an MBA and a cushy sales job where everyone on their team rehash their glory days every Friday at Happy hour.
Thinking about writing a book on technical leadership I haven't because 1) so much work. 2) I'm a perfectionist who'd probably never finish it. 3) the world has bigger shit to fix right now But as I talk to new leaders, I find myself wishing I could hand them the book I wish someone had handed me

It really depends on the fire, the location, just how wet it is, and, likely most importantly, how widespread it is. Mud usually isn't an issue on Idaho Fires, but it's not insanely rare for crews to stand down for a couple of days due to snow/freezing wx.
That said, if we have "normal" weather (does that exist anymore?) in September, given current conditions, this likely ends the *large* fire threat above about 7,000' in the Central Idaho Mountains.
This wasn't a season-ending event. But in many areas, it very much was a season-limiting event. #IdahoFire #Monsoon fwiw, in a couple of days I'll be talking about the anniversary of an infamous fire incident that occurred a few days after a significant snowfall.

Not new at all, it's just not a term used often outside of weather geeks, but if you read the NWS forecast discussions, you'll see it occasionally when monsoonal moisture from the SW gets pushed up toward us. it usually doesn't result in this, in fact it often causes dry lightning.

Given the amount of monsoonal moisture in the air over much of Idaho, the VIIRS/MODIS satellite fire detections (hot spots) you see in your fire apps will be drastically reduced as widespread/thick clouds interfere with detection. Don't assume zero hotspots shown means a cold fire #IdahoFire
