I had a US friend who never had a sweet tooth until he moved to Germany. Then he CRAVED sugar. He said he hadn't changed his diet, but I told him to compare sugar content of his ingredients (e.g. pasta) and he was shook! His gut microbiome really missed that high fructose corn syrup in everything.
