The lack of mainstream coverage of regular huge protests reminds me of a talk from a Twitter employees who explained that they had to drop BLM off the Trending Tags section because otherwise it would have been there permanently. The modern media environment has no appetite for sustained movements.
My heuristic is that 95% of Americans have literally no idea what’s happening in DC, and given our information environment, there is effectively no mechanism to get them to know what’s happening.

Because the thing is, this is real but also, it's not real. This image reflects the reality that Trump *wants* a total state in which he is the unquestioned leader, but we do not actually live in that state, at least not yet.
i find this image so fascinating. it is both a literal example of authoritarianism but also a second-hand reproduction of the aesthetics of other authoritarian states. it's like a simulacra of authoritarianism whose purpose is to attempt to make the simulacra real.

I think the next time we have any power we should triage whatever is left of the health care system as best we can and then rebuild, but states are going to have to make some really hard decisions in the meantime and cost/benefit favors preserving urban systems over rural.
