The problem now is that anyone who wants to vote against their party will get primaried and will have to deal with all the MAGA lunatics who will get sent after them.
The most disturbing thing is that even previous republicans at least tried to see Democrats as fellow citizens who they have disagreements with. Trump just seems to see people in pure binary terms. LA might as well be the ‘enemy capital’ in a war.
Not quite yet I’d argue. It feels more like a political tool. Whenever the regime wants it can use ICE to instigate a little trouble in Democrat cities. Easy to see how it’s going to be used around Election times to portray democrats as a bunch of ferals.
Although I do feel the primary motivation for all this is to punish Democrat cities and to intimidate people. I assume ICE will be used to suppress the Democrat vote going forward.

I just don’t recognise what you’re saying with my experience. I’ve worked with conservative MPs and colleagues to positively impact the lives of people I support. I disagree with them on politics but at the end of the day I’d rather be effective than ‘right’ any day.
A conservative could argue the precise opposite and say it’s evil that working people have to give their tax money just so people can sit on their arse all day. How do you win those people around? Call them evil? What does that achieve?

A conservative would say that cutting taxes encourages inward investment and deters capital flight. Limiting benefits should encourage work which is generally beneficial for people. I disagree to these points but they’re not evil to think them.
