they did basically everything, i think — for a show like this with a huge budget, it makes sense to go with a vertically integrated practical/VFX outfit like weta. they definitely did puppets and suits, and the puppets are where you can really see the issues. www.instagram.com/reel/DNmC_te...
alien earth is the first time weta has been responsible for a proper alien puppet/suit (they did facehuggers for alien romulus while old alien fx vets did the adult xenos) and it really just ... looks off. the body is fine, but the head does look a little inflated/stiff.

Everyone could do it and it would still only work for some. There’s no guaranteed way to generate critical mass. There are just ways that seem to give the best shot given the current steam algorithm/policies in place.

The one I've heard from several sources now is to time launch a month or so before big steam festival/sale windows, so you can get your launch bump, then hopefully get a second wind and snowball with the event visibility. then you ideally just keep bumping things with deal slots, etc.
