Extremely disappointed in this vote. You could have issued the statement condemning political violence without voting for this resolution honoring a misogynistic, racist, anti-LGBTQ bigot like Charlie Kirk.

I don't even have words for how gross this is. Have we lost all human decency?

For the same reason Hitler hated Jewish people...they were a convenient minority to attack and scapegoat to unify his supporters.

How does "pregnant people" delete anyone? Are women not included in "people"? It is inclusive of all people with uteruses, those who do identify as women and those who do not, while referring to all pregnant people as women is exclusive of trans men and non-binary people - *that's* deleting.

Thank you! I have lived 53 years without being either. But I am a daughter, and a sister, and an aunt, and a friend, and I have a career, and those matter too!

Washington was right when he spoke about the dangers of political parties. The next best thing to getting rid of them would be a multi-party system like other western countries have so they have to work together to get anything done.

Yes, but they share the blame with those who actually voted for this disaster.

We will never defeat Trumpism in this country so long as we accept the idea that some kinds of people are not as good as others. It's liberty and justice for all, all the way, for everyone, without a single asterisk.

You know what's crazy? There have been no op-eds or editorial statements in major newspapers this year calling on Trump to resign. None calling for his impeachment. None asking if he's medically fit to be in office. Not one in any major newspaper all year.

I think most American men would disagree with that.

Viagra enables/enhances sexual performance, which is absolutely considered a significant part of a masculine identity in our culture. Androgel is testosterone - there's nothing more associated with being "manly." Absolutely gender-affirming.
Dana Bius (@algeiban.bsky.social) reply parent
Of course it's gender-affirming care, it's just for cis people so that makes it OK 🙄.

Dana Bius (@algeiban.bsky.social) reply parent
Well, it means a little more than that. Some states will continue to allow same-sex marriages, and the states that don't will still have to recognize couples that get legally married in one of those states as married. They just won't have to allow gay couples to get legally married in their state.
Dana Bius (@algeiban.bsky.social) reply parent
Yeah, that line is from Margaret, the brace is Deenie. She wrote so many great books it's easy to confuse them!
Dana Bius (@algeiban.bsky.social) reply parent
Think you might be conflating two different Blume books, Are You There God, It's Me, Margaret, and Deenie. Deenie is the one about a girl who wears a brace.
Dana Bius (@algeiban.bsky.social) reply parent
And by the way, yes, SCOTUS can overturn a law passed by Congress, it's kind of their job.
Dana Bius (@algeiban.bsky.social) reply parent
Wrong. That law says the federal government will recognize same-sex marriages entered into in states where it is legal, and that other states must recognize those marriages. States decide what marriages they allow, and the federal statute does nothing to require they allow same-sex marriages.
Dana Bius (@algeiban.bsky.social) reply parent
This is not just a distraction to gay couples. We can talk about more than one horrible thing at a time.
Dana Bius (@algeiban.bsky.social) reply parent
It requires the federal government to recognize same-sex marriages and - I believe - requires states to recognize same-sex marriages entered into in other states where they are legal. It does nothing to require states to legally allow same-sex marriage themselves.

I know it's unpopular to say but Trump's authoritarian consolidation is succeeding, mostly because of cowardly institutions. We're effectively past the point of no return and life will increasingly become dictated by Trump and the federal government. Democracy is lost for at least a generation.

Yep. If a three-year-old is old enough to understand that a man and a woman can be a couple, they're also old enough to understand that two men or two women can be. That’s all they need to understand at that age, not the details of everything being a couple means.
