Yeah, it's like when engineers create gloves that can "recognize sign language" and then translate them with text-to-speech. These guys don't consult with actual sign language speakers and miss the fact that there's more to ASL than hand gestures.

This piece is very important on its own merits and resonates with some initiatives I’ve seen for other causes like sex worker rights, reproductive justice, & harm reduction. You can’t just show up and ignore stakeholders/communities that your idea is more solid than their experiential knowledge.

The map and buildings have a size that you can fill with workbenches, crop fields, etc. Instead of visuals, you get reports of stats. This might be more fun to design than play.

I play a lot of Rimworld and I really like all the systems and mechanics it has. I was thinking of how to design a simplified, text version of it. Not like Dwarf Fortress, but removing the 2D geometry altogether in favor of a "bag" approach...

I asked the LLM to write Python code, and instead of random.randint(0, 1) for each cell in a grid, it used: 1 if (hash((x, y, id(board))) ^ (x * 1315423911 + y * 2654435761)) & 1 else 0 Which... yeah I guess if you really don't want to import random and set a seed, that works...

while smiling! Gavin Newsom literally dressed up in his best Bad Boy™️ attire, invited the press, and smiled as he destroyed everything these constituents had in the world. Gavin Newsom is not a bad candidate; Gavin Newsom is truly, at his core, a bad and despicable human being.

Sometimes I wonder about the timeline where a young Spielberg made a hugely popular movie about lions instead of sharks.

Vibe coding challenge: Get an LLM to, using only Python's standard library and tkinter, create a geography quiz that shows a borderless map of Africa, prompts the user to click on a country, and then highlights the border of that country for a few seconds after they click. It can't be done.

I recommend watching Andor. It's what Star Wars would have looked like if they didn't try to sell toys.

People keep laughing at me behind my back about the lengths I go to for privacy and security online. They tell each other that the amount of inconvenience I accept is unreasonable for their day to day lives. I know this because their email password is qwerty123.

This is correct. The claim is supported by the number of *views* the tweet got, and that’s it. That’s genuinely it, it’s not an exaggeration.

I assume the website dictionary keeps their brand in mainstream consciousness. I go years in between remembering Encyclopedia Britannica still exists. Apparently they still show ads in their games even if you pay for a subscription.

I have never found an instance of "when am I ever going to need to know this?" that couldn't be responded to with, "When people try to scam you by exploiting your ignorance." Math? Statistics? Historical events? The legal system? Cleaning products? Basic biology? There are scams in everything.
