This is one of the biggest problems with politics in the US, and it has been a problem for a long time: no Democrat is ever good enough to be president and no republican is ever bad enough to not be president. And that mentality gets worse with each cycle.

They (Congress) did, and they also put a lot of conditions on those bailouts. Congress passed the Dodd-Frank act in 2010 to ensure a financial collapse like that wouldn’t happen again. But then republicans repealed parts of that law back in 2018, and we’re already backsliding.
