I’ll never understand why it all gets so last minute. It’s a collective mania.
Same as over on the old bird site. But less wound up. Default mode is sarcasm.

Yes, he’s got a different set of big cheeses to your average Bluesky guy. But yes, the big cheeses have to leave to kill a platform

The bigger story today is signing Woltmeyer. Isak has been going for a month and you looked like you were starting the season with no strikers. This is very decent signing.

The Athletic are compelled to create a *lot* of content. So rot like this has to be produced.

Your annual tax take is around $5Tn. You guys should be asking when you are getting your rebate with a 60% Trump tariff bonus on top.

We all have very different algorithms, I think people on here forget that.

I don’t think you should. So I left. But my kids, only one of whom is political, are all still there and they’re not fascists. One of them just likes chatting shit with strangers about football, the other is getting her celeb gossip fix.

And yet most of those freelancers aren’t nazis. Your life must be terribly uncomplicated to have this pure moral outlook.

I am not a flag fan. I’ve spent enough time in Northern Ireland to know they quite often mean “you’re not welcome here” but I also get the desire to reclaim the flag from arseholes.

One issue is that his cabinet are largely non-runners when it comes to replacing him, they’d be voting to be fired by President Vance. Then there will be Reps who want to be President and won’t want Vance having a free run. Perhaps they then have to impeach the VP? It’s impossibly messy.
Andrew Howard (@amhoward.bsky.social) reply parent
The stock market doesn’t. They were always *wildly* over-valued when European manufacturers like BMW, MB and VAG were going to devote time and investment to making a similar product. They could never maintain a technological advantage that justified the stock price.
Andrew Howard (@amhoward.bsky.social) reply parent
They will be incompetent. They are incompetent at council level and when it comes to coherent policy. But you are right, will not stop them attracting votes without significant attention being brought to bear. They are some people’s “they can’t be any worse” option. They really can.

Ok, but Peter’s *absolutely random* QTing of random folk who said something disparaging about him, was a genuine old school Twitter highlight.

That £35m price I think means there is a buy back in place - we've made it very easy for them in terms of PSR. But he's their asset now - they have to play him (unlike a regular loan) but we can still buy him back if he kicks on (which I really hope he does)
Andrew Howard (@amhoward.bsky.social) reply parent

Perhaps the small boat migrants will be sent back and the asylum seekers have their claims processed and stay, safe from being murdered / persecuted.
Andrew Howard (@amhoward.bsky.social) reply parent
The way football has implemented is rubbish. I’d draw a fatter line for offsides and make that “umpire’s call” and go with linesman’s decision. I’d also let the VAR alert the ref about things he might have missed and let the ref watch the monitor. We eliminate howlers, not strive for perfection.
Andrew Howard (@amhoward.bsky.social) reply parent
There was literally no consequence for IDS’s straight forward lie about this. Pretty sure all of my past employers would have fired me for a similar lie. Tories, eh?

Why have Arsenal turned up with their third strip which actually has red shorts? #LIVARS
Andrew Howard (@amhoward.bsky.social) reply parent
Not sure, but the discussion between the ref and her TMO didn’t touch on that. I think it was pretty recent - certainly the Irish tackler made the knock on signal straight after the score. I’m sure it’s fine, I just think it’s worth communicating as well as possible.

They play the tournament at a completely different time. Just make it the 7N and get on with it
Andrew Howard (@amhoward.bsky.social) reply parent
Yep. Don’t do what the men do and worry about the long term consequences of whether they are a one-off team (like Romania in the 70s or Georgia now) or the impact on the rest of the calendar if they have to add an extra round to the 7N. Just make it happen.
Andrew Howard (@amhoward.bsky.social) reply parent
The romantic says that, of course, but Aus and USA are going to be separated by tries and points difference so these do matter.
Andrew Howard (@amhoward.bsky.social) reply parent
I would have liked the TMO to have mentioned how many phases of play that was before the try. If it’s 1-2, then fair. If it’s 4+ then it’s tough, the ref missed it, we played on and shit happens.
Andrew Howard (@amhoward.bsky.social) reply parent

If you are Farage, two things are relevant (1) you can promise anything because there’s historically been so little detailed challenge around the details / practicalities and (2) Trump is showing that you can actually bend the laws and the constitution *a lot*, so why try and be bound by them?

Badenoch was SoS for Business and Trade under Sunak. To her credit (really!) she put a hold on the madcap scheme to simply blanket repeal all retained EU legislation. Hoffman is, in fact, too stupid to understand how catastrophic this would have been (like Reform)

I agree they are not acting like they have a 150 seat majority
Andrew Howard (@amhoward.bsky.social) reply parent
The plan is now no less pie in the sky but the opposition's fundamental moral objection has been neutered. This puts Labour in a bind - it really needs someone else to help fight the lack of substance in all Reform's plans. This ideally should be the Tories and the press.
Andrew Howard (@amhoward.bsky.social) reply parent
Ellie Reeves got heat yesterday for pointing out the weakness in the plan. Farage has the considerable advantage that he can simply back track on the Taliban part. The plan is so insubstantial anyway that it doesn't matter. He can simply say "we will pay Pakistan to take them".
Andrew Howard (@amhoward.bsky.social) reply parent
That was one of my key takeaways from Hutton (and Lord Adonis) book. I think it holds up. We have a lot of TV news time to fill and he's never had to invest time in doing an actual job / creating policy (hence his minimal commitment to MPing)
Andrew Howard (@amhoward.bsky.social) reply parent
Which is rational because China provides little ICE competition and is much more competitive in the electric space. But their product roadmaps show they are still committed to an electric future. As you said, this is about jobs and protectionism and the end of ICE is better for their competition.
Andrew Howard (@amhoward.bsky.social) reply parent
The big three in Germany are steaming ahead with electrification. They are not stupid. But they are still going to struggle to compete with Chinese costs - this is a challenge regardless of whether the engine is electric or IC.
Andrew Howard (@amhoward.bsky.social) reply parent
SNP there is a clear majority that simply will not support Reform's economic, social or political agenda. They don't need to form an electoral pact or anything like that but they do need to start to coordinate their messaging and their opposition to a vocal, but minority set of positions.
Andrew Howard (@amhoward.bsky.social) reply parent
This cannot just be Labour's problem. I feel a little sorry for them here (without excusing the moral cowardice of their current position). Governing is hard enough without having to deal with such a threat from the right. The Cons can't be relied on at all but across Lab, LibDem, Green, PC and

Doing the 92 is a big thing, if you start this season back down at 90, you’ve probably had 2 chances to get to Bromley’s place - and you’d be able to get a ticket. This would’ve been the first chance to get to the HD.

I don't think his comms skills should be underestimated - he's arguably second only to Blair in the last 30 years. I also buy the Will Hutton argument that his constant attempts to get elected meant he was *always* campaigning. And always available to time-poor researchers on TV news
Andrew Howard (@amhoward.bsky.social) reply parent
I guess one risk for Labour is inadvertently making Reform's plan *more* palatable. It's the RW press's enthusiasm for it that is most shocking.
