I highly doubt that the British press and government officials would have been defending Linehan if he had called for people to punch Jews. What's clear here is that the media and government officials do not take violent threats against trans people seriously despite murders of trans people.
This isn't someone simply spouting anti trans views. He's actively stalked people, including minors, and explicitly called for violence against them. Nearly all of the media coverage has completely omitted this context because they don't believe that violence against trans people should be punished.
