Fantastic - and long - thread here. Policies on crime, just like the other serious issues we face as a nation of 340mil people (abortion, vaccines, etc), should be based on *data*, and not simply be a way to launder the personal preferences or weird moral hangups of the last person holding the mic.

Yes, of course military occupation will for its duration reduce visible street crime. That's what Bukele in El Salvador is all about. Fascists want us to dispute that instead of emphasizing the military occupation *is* crime in so many ways & does more damage than all the muggers in the world.

I was lucky to grow up in a school district which, while still majority white, had us watching Roots and reading/hearing other first person narratives. This was 5th grade. But of course, lots of people who were in that class with me still didn't "get it."

Right, I don't mean to be ungrateful to teachers who go above and beyond - it grosses me out that they have to do that when they barely get paid enough. But sometimes classroom decorations are like over-the-top insane, when something much simpler would be fine, and less stressful for the ND kids.

My kid, too. I would hope that universities are able to provide locked-down (non-AI-accessing) computers for kids like ours to take tests on. But maybe not. AI is just ruining everything it touches. Now our kids have to compete not only against their own disabilities, but against this, too.

I'd love to give local govt some attention. People think govt=politics, which isn't true. But that way of thinking leads to the crazy "cat litter in schools" nonsense. Maybe if people were more aware of the day-to-day normal stuff in their community, they'd be less likely to embrace extremism. 🤷🏻♀️
