I was ready to add this point, so thank you. It was brutal for my severe ADD kid. They would get up and wander because there were things all over the walls drawing their attention, then get in trouble for being distracted 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

I spent 16 years working as a Sp Ed para in Gen Ed classrooms. During testing week, all of the stuff that had gotten hung up around the classroom had to come down. It never ceased to amaze me how much the visual clutter had been affecting *me*, so it had to have some detriment to the kids.

Yeah I spent close to $800 of my own money and purchase school supplies. I tell my students I can’t compete with TikTok and I’m not there for their entertainment.

Right, I don't mean to be ungrateful to teachers who go above and beyond - it grosses me out that they have to do that when they barely get paid enough. But sometimes classroom decorations are like over-the-top insane, when something much simpler would be fine, and less stressful for the ND kids.

Admin pushes them plenty too because it looks nice to parents, who of course are the most important people in the equation.

I suspect teachers would also be delighted to be relieved of the perceived need to spend their time and money on over-the-top decorations
