Eg someone commenting here mentioned using AI for grammar correction over paying a human to review their work - much faster and more affordable. Not something to be ashamed of imo. Never said problems like water usage should be ignored, they need solving. Will stop being moderate online now👋🔕

I’m disabled too :) I never said disabled people NEED AI because they’re inept or stupid. Just that I’ve witnessed it help someone, who chose it themselves, and who I do not think should be ashamed for that - and therefore maybe we shouldn’t tell everyone to be embarrassed and ashamed.

Alas, it was the only comparison I could think of. I agree that the environmental impacts of AI are a concern. (As well as the obvious copyright and connection stuff mentioned above.) I just don’t think that blacklisting it in its entirety and telling people to be ashamed is productive or useful.

I think disabled/disadvantaged people should get to choose which tools work for them and get them interacting with the world in a way they prefer.

It’s similar to how I feel about veganism: if you’re healthy w/no conditions and have money, you don’t have an excuse to still be contributing to suffering and climate change. If you don’t have money or [insert multitude of other reasons], it’s hard to do the right thing in the system we have now.

I think we agree overall, but this take lacks nuance imo. E.g: I don’t think people using AI to better express themselves (thinking about disabled, English-as-2nd-lang friends) should be ashamed. It’s not bad that not everyone can afford to stand up to the system while getting where they need to go.

1/3 ❌ PIP cuts will be devastating for people with #ME & #LongCovid. Our new briefing shows these reforms will push people further from work, deepen poverty & worsen health. We’re calling on MPs to oppose this - help us flood their inboxes. Briefing & how to act ⬇️

Same. I loved my job. I loved my financial freedom. Relying on a state that is happy to see us go hungry and lose our rights to an acceptable standard of living, is a horrific alternative to work. I’d be working if I could. #pwME #DisabilityRights
