The three policies I referred to are the underpaid part-time legislature, the 2/3 quorum, and the supermajority for tax increases. I know this is complicated, but we can agree that fixing any one would have improved the chance of a good transportation package this year. 3/3
I know there are lawmakers doing bad things and/or doing things badly - but those are not the ones that come on Bluesky to interact with us. You can never get rid of every evil or incompetent politician, but you can have a system that works better and gives them less leverage. 2/3

I understand - ultimately, the supermajority tax increase thing is to blame. If Congress had that, they would fully collapse. In spite of my disappointment with the party, I know a lot of you are doing good work and dealing with hard situations. There's just so little margin for error as it stands.

I talked to some folks at @pdxrenterpower.bsky.social about this - even the affordable housing quotas only go down to 60% of median income. Minimum wage comes out to something like 40%. When you say "deeply affordable," I'm hearing rents viable for someone at that 40%.

That's great, congratulations! I love stories like that. As a writer, Labor Notes is also really impressive to me. A lot of leftist writing isn't accessible to working people, but they are somehow able to do powerful stuff with short, simple articles. It's a gold standard.
Yeah, it's really cool stuff!! Labor Notes (which focuses on this) is amazing and should be assigned reading in high school or something. I got one of their books for my birthday which talks about this

To be clear, at every level of the union, there are workers and staff that are doing amazing work and really showing the spirit of the labor movement. But the institutional vibe is hard to change!
