It sounds like this guy, in addition to being a Nazi, is one of the most tedious and obnoxious people on the planet.

“[I]s it bad that my favorite class at harvard was nietzsche and my favorite book i’ve read this year is mein kampf?” Velchik wrote in June, 2013, one year after receiving his undergraduate degree from Harvard. In a separate nine-page email a few months later, as a law student, Velchik snapped off quick reviews of 76 books he said he‘d read over the prior year. He was “unimpressed” with Hamlet, greatly enjoyed “The Portrait of a Lady,” and, on “The Hunchback of Notre-Dame,” said he was “most glad that the gypsy was hung, as women need to learn to appreciate more than simply looks.” As for “Wuthering Heights,” Velchik wrote that he didn’t “usually read books written by women, and here I was reminded why.” “The subject of discourse was monotonous, though the plot decently conceived,” he wrote. Of “Mein Kampf,” Velchik called the book “fascinating” in some parts, without remarking on Hitler’s role as perpetrator of the Holocaust that killed 6 million Jews. “He certainly excelled as an orator, and his writing reflects oratory,” Velchik wrote. “Understands the importance of propaganda. Thought that the timing of a speech was important: better late at night!”

“And in an email to a peer … , as he was preparing to enter law school, Velchik wrote that he‘d enjoyed Hitler’s autobiography and political manifesto, ‘Mein Kampf,’ more than any other book he’d read recently during a year of travels.”

The idea that people shouldn't refuse to support politicians who don't support them is flipping the central premise of democracy on its head. You don't owe politicians anything, regardless of what party they belong to. They need to earn your vote if they want it, period.

When he shot and killed two other people, I'm sure he wasn't lying about any of the details.

Pusser survived several assassination attempts.[9] On February 1, 1966, Louise Hathcock attempted to kill Pusser during an on-site investigation of a robbery complaint at The Shamrock Motel. Hathcock fired on Pusser with a concealed .38 pistol. Pusser returned fire and killed Hathcock. On January 2, 1967, Pusser was shot three times by an unidentified gunman.[10] While he was already a local hero, Pusser's

In one case, gang cops chased down some random teenagers and threatened to kill them. One cop pistol whipped one of the teens. The civilian review board recommended that he be fired. Instead, the police commissioner promoted him.

The sun had already set as three teenage boys wrapped up a basketball game at the Harbor Point apartments, a housing complex that juts out into Dorchester Bay. As they walked home on that cold night in February of 2022, they noticed an unmarked black Ford Explorer following them. They got nervous, the group told investigators, and ducked into the basement of a nearby building. When they exited from the other side, three more black cars “cornered them,” according to an investigation by the Office of Police Accountability and Transparency (OPAT), Boston’s police oversight body. Police jumped out with guns drawn, the report says, yelling “do not move or we will f---ing shoot you.” One of the teenagers said an officer then tackled him to the ground and handcuffed him. When he sat up he had a large cut across his right eyebrow. In transcripts of body camera footage included in official reports, the detaining officer, Matthew Conley, said, “I literally had the gun in my hand, so I punched him in the face with it.” The oversight agency recommended that Conley be terminated. But Boston Police Commissioner Michael Cox refused to fire him. City records show Conley was promoted to detective in December 2023, nearly two years after the Harbor Point incident. In 2022, Conley was the lead investigator on a Youth Violence Strike Force unit looking into gang activity around Columbia Point in Dorchester. He had reported watching a known gang associate on Snapchat in the area of the basketball courts, wearing a powder blue Nike sweatshirt, and called in officers to search the area. The officers closed in on a group of teens leaving the basketball courts. Conley tackled one of them with his gun drawn and struck him in the face, according to the police accountability office’s investigation and the transcript from a body camera worn by another officer that night. When the dust cleared, Conley saw the bleeding teenager on the ground in front of him was wearing a Polo sweatsuit that was navy blue, according to the OPAT investigation. And when other officers asked, Conley “confirmed they had detained the wrong individuals.”

David Sullivan has spent more than $13,000 and counting of taxpayer money on a private law firm to fight against police transparency in #Massachusetts after I sued him over his refusal to release the names of police officers who were charged with crimes. #mapoli

In July 2023, Sullivan’s office retained the Boston-based private law firm Butters Brazilian to defend it against the lawsuit. The district attorney’s office agreed to pay $350 an hour each for two lawyers and $75 an hour for the work of clerks and paralegals, according to an agreement obtained by making a public records request. Butters Brazilian has billed taxpayers $13,454.17 for work related to the case as of July 31, according to invoices released by Sullivan’s office. Those records do not include the charges for the final draft of the district attorney’s motion for summary judgment.

Real reform wouldn't be a toothless body feebly requesting that the most violent one of these gang cops be fired. It would be saying that maybe we don't need violent adult men who are paid hundreds of thousands of dollars a year to prey on children and terrorize them in the first place.

Conley was not wearing his body camera that day, police records show, meaning the melee wasn’t directly captured on video; another officer’s camera caught Conley’s remarks in the aftermath. In the end, Boston police investigators sided with Conley, saying the department could “not prove or disprove the allegation.” Conley was issued only a written reprimand — for violating the department’s body camera policy.

What the fuck. A Western #Massachusetts company is experimenting on vulnerable seniors with a voice-activated generative AI program that "provides a combination of digital companionship, health coaching and proactive monitoring." www.masslive.com/westernmass/...

SPRINGFIELD — Access Care Partners, formerly WestMass ElderCare, is rolling out a new service on the cutting edge of elder care. The Virtual Communication and Monitoring service provides a combination of digital companionship, health coaching and proactive monitoring through 24/7 artificial intelligence and human-supported technology. Access Care Partners has two versions of the new service, each designed for the different needs of older adults living at home, which aligns with the agency's mission to help people age in place, said Access Care Partners Executive Director Roseann Martoccia. The first option focuses on social support. Consumers are provided with a user-friendly tablet that connects automatically to the internet and features an on-screen avatar that interacts with the user. The tablet is voice-activated only and requires very little training to use. Once the tablet is on, it does not need to be turned off, and in the event it needs to be used, the consumer only has to speak to the tablet or tap the screen to The AI system engages the user in personalized conversations, offering regular companionship and helping to reduce feelings of isolation and loneliness. The device can be used 24/7, creating ongoing opportunities for social interaction, the agency said. The second program option is centered around clinical support. It functions like a virtual 24-hour doctor's office, giving users access to nurses for health advice and condition-specific wellness education. The goal is to help manage symptoms at home and reduce unnecessary emergency room visits. Users can communicate via phone or video, whichever they prefer, and a companion app allows for virtual visits and vitals tracking when remote monitoring tools are used. Health information is also shared with the user's care team to ensure continuity of care. Although the service is still new, Scott shared that the agency has been able to assist its clients with a variety of things, such as arranging in-home physical therapy after a hospitalization, recommending emergency room visits, and following up to help with arranging doctor appointments, specialists, and transportation.
