I find it noteworthy that WaPo has gone fascist because they were purchased by an oligarch for that purpose—other outlets have been silenced due to coming under oligarchic control—and NYT has gone fascist because they think it’s their sacred duty to rewrite reality so it doesn’t have “liberal bias.”

Texas loaded busses with desperate migrants and dropped them off in Chicago like trash in the middle of winter. We welcomed them into our communities. Now Texas is sending its National Guard to terrorize them on our streets. In our neighborhoods. What the fuck.

also, what do you think people conclude when they hear you say Donald Trump is a "wannabe king" who is "attacking the American people" (both true things Jeffries has said) and also that you want to find common ground with him? Probably that your criticisms are insincere or that you're weak or both

It took a De Kelley to make McCoy work despite his “Southern Doctor” persona even in THE 1960S, saddling Muldaur with similar schtick in the ‘90s was a deathblow to the character. By the time Pulaski starts being a worthwhile addition to the cast, Crusher is on her way back anyway (thankfully)

Thinking back to this era of the franchise / life, I wonder if that’s why Paris / Torres felt so refreshing They just ground their gears on each other, it really wasn’t anything special but the bar was low

Nothing against Muldaur but, uh, once Maurice Hurley sexually harassed McFadden off the show, the big idea to replace her was “McCoy, but female.” Since there wasn’t a Spock around to be racist at, Data got the “pleasure.”

yeah, to clarify, I *like* "Ahsoka" I think it has some fairly bad structural and pacing issues that might feel less severe, or important, when a 2nd season and hopefully a 3rd comes out "Andor" is just lightning-in-a-bottle shit (also not enough people have seen "Rebels," full stop)

The other other thing is that it’s weird-trick-ism “Andor” is better than “Ahsoka” (if the word “better” means *anything* in the context of media criticism). Is that because “Ahsoka” has Jedi in it, or is it because of “Andor’s” creative team?

Even this is interesting, as it’s yes and no…in universe, “Anakin Skywalker” is a hero of the Clone Wars, and is thought to have no children. Sidious and Vader themselves erased his name, and Sidious later gloats over seeming to destroy “the last Skywalker.”
Anguirus (@anguirus.bsky.social) reply parent
You’re allowed to say that you prefer your fiction to be set in a particular time, before or after particular fictional events, and with particular characters. That’s okay! It’s fictional!! I just get some Krennic vibes at times. “Their Holy City. The last reminder of the Jedi…gone.”
Anguirus (@anguirus.bsky.social)
Tl;dr I finally stumbled onto what has always rubbed me the wrong way about a particular species of “Andor” commentary
Anguirus (@anguirus.bsky.social) reply parent
Nearly all the other Jedi aren’t related to any other Jedi, or any other characters of note, since there’s actually in-universe rules to prevent that sort of dynasty from taking off
Anguirus (@anguirus.bsky.social) reply parent
Fans have made more of this than the text has and they always have The Chosen One = “A prophecy that misread, could have been.” The Skywalker Bloodline *barely exists* and the one time someone got explicitly excited about it, the Jedi got killed off again
Anguirus (@anguirus.bsky.social) reply parent
(PS—the exact guys who killed the Jedi also killed Clem Andor We think this wasn’t deliberate imagery? What are we DOING here?)
Anguirus (@anguirus.bsky.social) reply parent
sure I think getting that headline out of what McGregor’s actually quoted to have said is just straight up bottom-feeding, even for entertainment journalism
Anguirus (@anguirus.bsky.social) reply parent
And yes the Jedi and Skywalkers are fictional characters. So are Vulcans, and Romulans, and Augments. We are not dealing with real-world stakes, but sometimes we don’t realize what we sound like either.
Anguirus (@anguirus.bsky.social) reply parent
8) I think this is what’s really bothering me…saying “Andor can be Truly Antifascist because it doesn’t include those Jedi and Skywalkers” feels like gloating over the absence of the exact people that the Galactic Empire devoted itself to destroying. “Andor” isn’t saying this—some of its fans are.
Anguirus (@anguirus.bsky.social) reply parent
I don’t think we should confuse that with something “Andor” or its creators are *saying.* It’s no more embarrassed to be part of the broader Star Wars universe than BLACK WIDOW is embarrassed to be part of the MCU.
Anguirus (@anguirus.bsky.social) reply parent
7) if you like “Andor” because there’s “no Jedi” and you want to cherish your love for it without involving yourself in the rest of the franchise, that’s wonderful. The value of a varied franchise is to produce different things for different folks. But…
Anguirus (@anguirus.bsky.social) reply parent
6) when talking about the broader franchise being able to articulate that the Jedi Order were collaborators in fascism AND victims OF fascism is an entry level requirement Sorry (not actually sorry) like if this is tough watch 1-3 with your thinking cap on and/or watch “The Acolyte”
Anguirus (@anguirus.bsky.social) reply parent
3) there’s literally a place called Jedha ffs can we be serious 4) a blind man uses sorcery to be immune to lasers in broad daylight 5) Cassian is literally a Force-prophesied hero, which we know because of a Force healer
Anguirus (@anguirus.bsky.social) reply parent
You can like things for any reason at all but if you’re going to write about Gilroy!SW I think you should consider: 1) the “lack” is a required artifact of being an immediate prequel to ANH 2) RO repeatedly reminds us that the Jedi are victims of an ongoing genocide (and features Vader)
Anguirus (@anguirus.bsky.social)
Gonna put on my Pet Peeve hat and observe that “Andor” and ROGUE ONE—which I love dearly—are not good *because* they lack Jedi and Skywalkers Because for one thing, they don’t even particularly lack Jedi and Skywalkers
Anguirus (@anguirus.bsky.social) reply parent

I think that’s more of a knock-on effect. TX governor used to be famously weak. Then GWB used it as a springboard to POTUS. What changed was the propaganda machine rather than a massive increase in physical authority.
Anguirus (@anguirus.bsky.social)
I know this is my weird crank political opinion but I don’t think this has been true since shortly after Nagasaki “President” used to mean “not a king” and now it means “guy who controls the nukes” which is more power than even the gods have in a lot of stories 🙃

IIRC the Legend War didn’t include a lot of Sixth Heroes in the original shots, they weren’t really involved in the story till Gokai Silver came in, so no errant Dragon Ranger or Kiba Ranger shots. And since TJ can become the Red Turbo Ranger, the only big no-no is Red Zeo + Black Dino Charge Ranger

Anguirus (@anguirus.bsky.social) reply parent
The Sentais started a yearly crossover tradition that PR used or ignored as appropriate—it gave us the well-regarded Alien Ranger / Zeo Ranger crossover, but I believe the infamous In Space / Lost Galaxy crossover was almost all US footage. (They used Psycho Pink as the villain and killed LG!Pink)
Anguirus (@anguirus.bsky.social) reply parent
Forever Red is all-US footage and has Tommy!Red Zeo, TJ!Red Turbo, Andros!Red Space…it turned out pretty perfect even though those teams all overlapped
Anguirus (@anguirus.bsky.social) reply parent
I’m not sure the Tommy problem really kicked them like that, they didn’t have a crossover between the Zeos and the Turbos which is the only place it would have really been a pain. (Even then there was a second non-Tommy Turbo Red)
