I've always been a fan of these birds since reading Island of the Blue Dolphins when I was 12 or so.
Best thing we ever did when we bought our house: ripped out the lawn. We grow primarily food and also native plants/pollinators.

We accidentally ended up with about 2 dozen thriving tomatoes thanks to a neighbor giving us extra on top of ours, so our food bank is getting plenty of them fresh from us as well. It makes me so happy to be able to do that.

I'm glad to hear it! My best (and oldest) gal recently got a severe URI and I thought for sure I'd lose her. She pulled through with antibiotics and a lot of coaxing to eat her protein and drink her electrolytes!

A few of my neighbors have received pickles, jam, and salsa this week!
Milkweed (several types), coneflower, lots of herbs they like, sunflowers, zinnias, bee balm, bergamot, a few others I can't remember, and a grab bag of bulbs. We're actually setting up the host garden bulbs and some seeds this fall and will sow the rest of the seeds come spring.

Your last post I saw about this inspired me. I'm putting together a box of produce and eggs from my humble abode for the local food pantry, which feeds a lot of my queer community, unfortunately but also fortunately. I also put out a call for neighbor contribution.
Took me a few days to clear out the old (not fruiting) strawberries, ground thyme, and weeds, but my root veg winter rows are ready for planting. Tonight, prepping more zukes for dehydration and for donation, along with tomatoes and eggs.
So, start hiring him if you're arrested for sabatoging ICE or throwing sandwiches at FBI agents, right? That's the message, right?

Sunflowers are the national flower of Ukraine. I'm so very happy we had a random giant plant appear this year! Feels like hope. It's been through a couple REALLY bad storms and is propped up on a stone block now, but it still lives.
May I ask what zone you are in? I don't think I could get away with planting corn right now but I will be planting a few of the items you listed after my current plants are done producing for a winter crop.
I get that. Like, I am happy to share my extra starts and my extra harvest with people in need, but I recently gave away starts and made it very very clear which ones were for the person picking them up (on a tray with a blue towel) and she ended up taking ALL my starts. π€¬π‘π π€ So, no π« or π§ for me. π
