Ah I must admit I conflated general criticism of Garland with this specific case. My bad. Still, Congress has oversight powers, they could’ve held hearings about this and demanded answers from the FBI & DOJ.
Adam (@aps5521.bsky.social) reply parent
Yeah make no mistake, I’m not trying to say they don’t deserve any criticism. For sure they do - it’s not black & white, all or nothing. Instead one man seems to take it all. And if we’re ever going to reform those institutions I think appropriately assigning blame is this case is necessary.
Adam (@aps5521.bsky.social) reply parent
Sure, but even then it ignores SCOTUS & Congress roles in this. Both the J6 committee & SCOTUS caused delays. How could they predict drawing Judge Cannon in FL? All of this blame on one branch, armed with 20/20 hindsight, contributes to the prevailing idea of an all-powerful executive branch.
Adam (@aps5521.bsky.social) reply parent
I do think this gets overstated because it fails to address the ideologically stacked courts (especially SCOTUS) they had to contend with. However their bottom-up prosecution approach, while not totally ill-advised without hindsight, failed to account for this & had devastating consequences.
Adam (@aps5521.bsky.social) reply parent

I can criticize Biden for shoring up democracy. But I also criticize Congress - the branch of govt responsible for creating legislation. Just admit it, you’re fine with a single person having all the power and ruling like a king, so long as they’re enacting Medicare-for-all and abolishing ICE.

Adam (@aps5521.bsky.social) reply parent
I can read. I know what she vetoed…and that’s why Biden supported the federal legislation. Dude, if you think Biden “empowered” Trump, you’re delusional. Trump would’ve done what he’s doing whether Biden vetoed that bill or not. Stop trying to blame Trump’s actions on anyone other than Trump.
Adam (@aps5521.bsky.social) reply parent
Did you read the article where Murial Bowser vetoed the law??? “Split the Democratic Party?” Why do you blame one man when it was more than just him? This is a problem…a fundamental lack of understanding of how legislating occurs. We have three branches of government for a reason.
Adam (@aps5521.bsky.social) reply parent
I have no idea what you’re talking about. How does this have anything to do with DC statehood? Yes Biden’s DOJ probably could’ve more aggressively prosecuted people from Trump 1.0. That’s a different discussion.
Adam (@aps5521.bsky.social) reply parent
Look I support DC statehood. But I have no idea what “prescriptive statement about Dem policy” means. Saying they should’ve already done it ignores the reality that the support was never there. Criticize the lack of support if you want, but don’t pretend like they “could’ve” & simply chose not to.
