Hibiscus grandiflorus, another of our native hibiscus, and a very lorge one at that. I have a selfie with one of them for size reference but I had a beard then and nobody wants to see that
I hadn't been to one of my favorite secluded spots (deep into a trail, and the one branch of which that ends at the St John's River) in mid-summer because it's usually flooded mosquito hell, but it was worth the trek this time because GIANT RED FLOWER 😍 (Scarlet rosemallow, Hibiscus coccineus)

Did I find chantarelles or jack o lanterns 👀 Not growing on wood but under an oak, scattered individuals and a small handful growing together, white stringy flesh under the orange, ridges rather than flimsy gills, smells faintly fruity. So I'm leaning chantarelles? 🍄

(that's not entirely correct, they are kinda sweet, I've only run into a couple feisty ones and the rest just peer at me. The first one I saw was a foot from my head because I was on the ground looking at a spider, just chilling)
